Drama Classes for Individuals in Recovery

At Second Baptist Church, this multi-week program offers two connected sessions designed for people in recovery. The Recovery Play invites participants to develop an original performance exploring recovery from substance use, eating disorders, and trauma. Each collaborative piece runs about 30 minutes, written and performed by the entire group for invited guests. Following that, the drama class centers on personal storytelling through original monologues and scenes drawn from each person’s recovery journey. Techniques include improvisation, role play, scene setting, mirroring, and movement, along with other drama therapy methods. Participants create and present monologues that reflect a hardest day in addiction, a best day in recovery, and a message voiced from their Higher Power. The full 20-class series is $50 per person. Children's Art Class- Doodle Bugs

Designed for children ages 5 to 9, this class focuses on two-dimensional materials and beginner drawing skills while introducing young artists to notable creators and major art movements. Students build confidence incrementally, using playful doodling and guided exercises to strengthen technique. Monthly themes shape the projects. January centers on space, with activities like watercolor nebula effects using salt, marbled star patterns, imaginative alien posters, and pastel planet studies. February moves under the sea through paper-collage ocean scenes, floating jellyfish sculptures, shell-based creations, and fish made with stamps. March explores the world of dreams with cloud paintings, heat-melt experiments, humorous face collages, and quirky creature artworks. April blossoms with paper flowers and mobiles, paintings inspired by Monet’s water lilies, observational studies of real blooms, and pop-up bouquets. May turns to pattern and design through collage scavenger hunts, a custom set of patterned cards, poster layout practice, and simple flip books that make dots appear to grow. Monday sessions are intentionally priced a bit lower. Spring Trolley Tours

Guided trolley rides offer a relaxed way to explore the National Ranching Heritage Center and its 19 acres of historic grounds. "How to Use a Sketchbook: There Are No Rules" with Alita Lutrick

Artist Alita Lutrick leads an evening devoted to the creative possibilities of sketchbooks at the Buddy Holly Center. Discover how a sketchbook can capture observations, spark inspiration, and support practice, functioning like a personal journal or a guide shaped by the artist’s own choices. Participants ages 18 and up receive a spiral-bound sketchbook and can begin creating in it on site, surrounded by Ashley Stecenko’s artwork from the exhibition Daybook. Professionals set up stations with demonstrations and quick challenges so students can see, touch, and try elements of different jobs while moving freely from booth to booth. The event invites business owners, professionals, and community leaders from many areas, including business and entrepreneurship, health and medical careers, skilled trades such as HVAC, welding, plumbing, and automotive technology, law enforcement and legal fields, media, photography, film, and design, STEM such as coding, robotics, and engineering, education and youth services, the arts including writing, music production, and performing arts, finance and banking, sports and athletic training, and nonprofits and community leadership. The goal is to expand possibilities for students, especially Black and other minority youth, by highlighting role models who look like them, boosting confidence, and sparking early interest in futures they may not have considered.

In March, the focus turns to characters in a steampunk style, cloud paintings, drawings of machine mazes, and three point glass houses. In April, activities revolve around paper flowers and mobiles, Monet inspired water lilies, still life studies of real flowers, and a pop up bouquet. In May, the emphasis is on poster creation, a set of patterned note cards, and a small exhibit.

Requiem for a Giant: The Megalodon - Public Lecture

Paleontologist Dr. Robert W. Boessenecker of the University of California Museum of Paleontology presents a deep dive into the fate of Carcharocles megalodon. Drawing on fossils found in late Cenozoic deposits on nearly every continent except Antarctica, the talk reviews what teeth, vertebrae, and a handful of scales reveal about this enormous shark. Myths of survival and big-screen stories are set aside in favor of evidence that helps pinpoint when the species disappeared. The lecture highlights recent advances in understanding how megalodon evolved, how it lived, and how its extinction unfolded. It also considers how the loss of such a giant carnivore influenced the development of today’s marine ecosystems and what that perspective can tell us about the challenges facing modern ocean life.

Ole 60 brings the Smokestack Town Tour to the outdoor stage at Cook's Garage for a concert in the open air. This is an all general admission show and tables will not be available. Girl Scout Game Day | Texas Tech Softball | Lubbock

Girl Scouts of every level are invited to Rocky Johnson Softball Field for a game day with Texas Tech Softball. Expect an action-packed matchup with diving catches, big hits, and plenty of Texas Tech spirit. The outing gives troops a chance to experience collegiate softball together, strengthen connections, and share Girl Scout pride with the community. Tickets are $14 each. A special discounted rate is available for Girl Scouts. This is not a drop off program. All girls must be supervised according to Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints adult to girl ratios.

9th Annual - 4 person golf scramble

This ninth annual four person golf scramble at Shadow Hills Golf Course raises funds for Lutheran Youth of the Texas Panhandle. The tournament features a shotgun start in a scramble format, with food, camaraderie, and prizes. Registration is offered in advance and on the day of the tournament.

LBK Dogs Pack Gives Back: Volunteer Day at Lubbock Animal Shelter

This volunteer day at Lubbock Animal Shelter brings people together to support animals and daily shelter operations. Participants should arrive in long pants and closed-toed shoes, sign in at the front desk, then break into assigned groups and choose a task from a list provided by the Pack Leader. First-time volunteers will complete a waiver at the front desk before getting started. Typical help includes playing with dogs in the yards, washing bowls, cleaning kennels, and refilling water. An arena of playful competition sets the stage for the inaugural Thunderdome fundraiser from F.O.E. #4271 benefiting Highpoint Village. Participants can buy numbered balloons for $5 each, which are placed in the arena. A robotic vacuum designed to pop balloons moves through, and the final balloon left unpopped wins. In each round, the winner shares the pot with the charity, and multiple rounds are planned. Commemorative drink cups will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the cause. Participants and volunteers are needed.

36th Annual Floyd Stumbo Memorial Golf Tournament

Now in its 36th year, the Floyd Stumbo Memorial Golf Tournament takes place at Hillcrest Golf & Country Club. This community tradition benefits the Children’s Home of Lubbock, supporting its mission to offer safety, healing care, and new opportunities for children in need. The event brings together longtime participants and first-time players on the course in support of that cause.

Move & Make Adapted Sports Camps!

Weekly summer camps focused on adapted sports and crafts welcome children with disabilities ages 6 to 12. Offered by the LEAP Learning Lab and Lighthouse Learning Center, the series includes six weeks with six distinct themes. Camps are supervised by a doctoral level board-certified behavior analyst along with certified behavior technicians and graduate interns.
