This Sorcery Contested Realm constructed tournament uses a Swiss format with at least three rounds, with the total number of rounds based on participation. The entry fee is $20. First place receives a Frank Frazetta Sorcerer promo and a two-player Sorcery playmat. Second through fourth each receive a two-player Sorcery playmat. Packs from the Beta and Arthurian Legends sets will also be distributed among participants according to attendance.

At MacKenzie State Park, the 8th annual event features a chip timed 5K with winners recognized in multiple categories, along with a family joy walk. Every registration includes a pancake breakfast. Proceeds from the event are donated to support breast cancer and NKH.

Microchip Event

A microchip event at Clapp Park focuses on helping pets find their way home if they are ever lost. Microchipping is fast and straightforward, giving pets a form of identification that improves the chance of a safe reunion. At a recent event, 38 animals were microchipped. Pet owners can have their companions microchipped on site for added protection.

LBK Dogs: Saturday Pack Walk

Dog owners in Lubbock meet for a relaxed pack walk with their pups, starting from He-Brews Coffee at the Buddy Holly Recreation Area where the group gathers in the parking lot. Friendly, well-socialized dogs of any age or breed are welcome, as long as they are comfortable with people and other dogs. For the safety of all participants, only dogs that have completed their full series of parvo vaccinations should attend. An RSVP is required.

The event also features free classes and activities, including sessions such as yoga and canning workshops. It is a place to stock up on local goods, learn new skills, and connect with neighbors while celebrating all things local.

Lubbock Kids: Mom Walk Club

Enjoy a relaxed morning centered on connection, coffee, and community. It begins at The Human Bean, where the first 15 moms receive a complimentary drink. Afterward, the group heads to Quincy Park for an easy walk and time for the kids to play. Texas License to Carry (Course and Range Qualification - split over two days))

Build a solid foundation for lawful and safe carry in Texas with this state-required License to Carry course. Training follows the mandated curriculum and timeline, covering essential knowledge for responsible concealed carry while preparing participants for both the written exam and the live-fire proficiency test. The format is split over two days, with classroom instruction first and a separate range session for qualification on the second day. After successful completion, participants receive a Certificate of Training (LTC 104) to submit to the State as proof of meeting the training requirement. Instruction covers laws related to weapons and the use of deadly force, practical handgun operation and safety including the use of retention holsters and secure methods for open carry, nonviolent dispute resolution, and safe storage practices that help prevent accidental injury to children. The course fee is $100, and a $20 range fee is collected during the range session. A valid driver’s license or state-issued identification card is required for class.

Group Run

A welcoming group sets out from The Brass Tap in Lubbock to run, walk, or ruck a 2.15-mile route through southwest Lubbock. Participants gather on the patio for brief announcements and a group photo before departing. After the workout, The Brass Tap offers rotating discounts on food and drinks. LBK: Texas Tech Ranch Management Lecture

Texas Tech University’s Master of Science in Ranch Management Program introduces the Ranchers’ Lecture Series, with Executive Director Clint Rusk, Ph.D., serving as host. The opening presentation features Shannon Ferrell, J.D., from Oklahoma State University. One session will be held at the National Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock, and another will take place at the Plainview Country Club in Plainview, Texas. Registration is free, and attendees are asked to RSVP so meals can be planned accordingly.

Stretch & Strength

Take a 45-minute full-body class to enhance flexibility, balance, and muscle strength. This class, led by Valerie Hill, is designed for adults 18 and older and welcomes all experience levels. The class costs $10 for the month.

Middle&High School Art Classes

Tailored for ages 10 and up, this class centers on two dimensional media with guided instruction and inspiration drawn from art across different eras, helping young artists strengthen technique and develop their own style. In February, projects include illustrated maps, painting jellyfish, shell based creations, and ocean life composed with zentangle patterns. March features steampunk character design, paintings of clouds, mechanical maze drawings, and glass houses explored in three point perspective. April turns to blooming subjects through paper flowers and mobiles, water lilies inspired by Monet, still life studies of real florals, and a pop up bouquet. In May, the focus shifts to pattern and design through poster work, a set of patterned note cards, and a small exhibit.

Children's Maker Class - Craft Quest

Designed for ages 6 and up, this hands-on maker class turns imagination into tangible creations through costuming, props, and story-led projects that encourage creative thinking and a process-first approach. Each month brings a new adventure. Treasure Hunters launches a pirate quest where makers put together hats, hooks, swords, and other swashbuckling gear. Super Heroes invites participants to craft capes, gauntlets, utility belts, tools, and more. In Dreamz explores LEGO-inspired builds with boxy vehicle and animal mashups, kid-sized LEGO tools, and a wearable cardboard LEGO head. May the Force Be With You travels to a faraway galaxy to build mini droids, junk protocol bots, and foam lightsabers.

Wood and Wine DIY Workshop

This hands-on, three hour DIY workshop invites participants to choose a project during online registration, then learn how to distress, sand, stain, assemble, and paint it. There is no need for everyone to settle on the same design, since projects are selected individually. Stain and paint colors are picked in the studio, and glitter is available for extra flair. The studio is BYOB, so personal beverages are welcome. Online registration closes 12 hours before the workshop.

Speak Dog: The Basics is a four-class series led by Amelia of Presley K9, created to help people and their dogs understand each other. You will work on core skills such as sit, down, come, and polite leash walking in a way that makes sense to dogs and is easy to apply at home and in everyday situations. The curriculum also covers the place command to build calm and focus. The approach centers on real-life progress instead of perfection. Friendly dogs are welcome, and beginners are encouraged. The series costs $100 per dog, which is $25 per class. Sessions are held beside the Healthbeat Circuit at Buddy Holly Lake Recreation Area.

📸 PhotoPlains! 2026 — Call for Entries

Entries are open for PhotoPlains! 2026, marking the 32nd year of this open, juried photography showcase that spotlights the creativity of photographers from the Plains. Participants may deliver as many as three original photographs to the Lubbock Municipal Garden & Arts Center during the designated drop off period. Founded by Ann McDonald, the exhibition continues alongside the West Texas Photographic Society of Lubbock and the Lubbock Camera Club. The juror is Kathy Drake, a Certified Professional Photographer with over three decades of experience. Thunderdome!

An arena of playful competition sets the stage for the inaugural Thunderdome fundraiser from F.O.E. #4271 benefiting Highpoint Village. Participants can buy numbered balloons for $5 each, which are placed in the arena. A robotic vacuum designed to pop balloons moves through, and the final balloon left unpopped wins. In each round, the winner shares the pot with the charity, and multiple rounds are planned. Commemorative drink cups will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the cause. 36th Annual Floyd Stumbo Memorial Golf Tournament

The 30th annual Charles and Rose Hankson Fishing Derby takes place at Mae Simmons Lake. It is open to families and friends, with complimentary fishing, free food, and prizes. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Game Warden and 100 Black Men of West Texas, Inc. will be present.

This gathering centers on a members’ conversation about practical ways to keep iris organized, along with a presentation of a shared database available to members. It is open to everyone and will wrap up with a brief business meeting.

Geology Summer Camp (5-Day) 🪏

A hands on camp invites kids to explore the science beneath their feet through discovery and play. Participants investigate rocks and crystals, run experiments to learn how the planet works, and build a simple seismograph. They also grow crystals and examine a variety of rocks up close. In addition to the activities, there is creative, staff led play and time to enjoy the park with friends. The camp includes a snack and drink, hands on projects, themed activities, and plenty of fun. Tuition is $225, with a 10 percent discount for members. Space is limited.
