Best of the Zest

Best of the Zest is a business pitch event where Lemonade Day youth transform their lemonade stand ideas into concise presentations for judges at Betenbough Homes West Lubbock. Registered participants ages 7 to 17 can compete for recognition and prizes, with awards for first, second, and third place. Participation is free. To take part, youth must be registered with Lemonade Day, download the MyLemonadeDay app, and brand their stand by adding it to the program’s map. The event is limited to 12 participants. 5x7 Art Bash 2026

Celebrate Gilded Age elegance in a night shaped by the flowing lines and lavish spirit of Art Nouveau. Live music from the Colt Compton Jazz Quartet sets the tone as art, a vibrant setting, and celebration fill the room for one night only. Expect art, music, light bites, and spirited drinks. Hundreds of anonymous five-by-seven inch works will be on view until the fast-paced Art Dash & Grab, when guests dash to claim favorite pieces, each available for $100. All artworks are donated by artists from the School of Art, the Lubbock community, and alumni nationwide, and proceeds support art scholarships. The Medici Circle, a Lubbock volunteer group that supports the School of Art through community building and fundraising, has helped create or expand $750,000 in art scholarship endowments since 2005.

Improv Mania

Hullabaloo Comedy Company and LHUCA present a fast paced competitive improv comedy showdown at the Firehouse Theatre at LHUCA. Returning after strong demand, every scene is created on the spot from audience suggestions. Seasoned comedians face off for the title of Hullabaloo Comedy Champion, delivering an unpredictable, high energy show.

LBK Dogs: Saturday Pack Walk

Enjoy a social pack walk in Lubbock for dog owners and their pets. Friendly dogs that are comfortable with people and other dogs are welcome, regardless of age or breed. SewEverly Changed sewing event

Hosted at Aldersgate Church, this hands-on sewing effort focuses on turning donated wedding dresses into infant burial gowns. In addition to sewing, help is needed with tasks such as pattern cutting and other supporting roles, making it welcoming to a range of skill levels.

2nd Annual Seed & Stem Festival

Now in its second year, the Seed & Stem Festival returns to Lubbock Memorial Arboretum Foundation, Inc. for a spring gathering that celebrates families, gardens, and community connection. Petfest Run

Pick a pace and take part in a community 5K or 1 mile run or walk in support of the Lubbock Aquarium. The 5K follows a paved course designed for a wide range of abilities, while the shorter 1 mile option offers a scenic outing that works for all ages. There is an opportunity to finish at the Lubbock Aquarium Discovery Trail to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Create a team to fundraise together and compete to raise the most, with an award for the top fundraising team. After finishing, enjoy family activities, music, food, and a welcoming celebration. 57th Annual Ranch Day

Celebrate ranch life at the National Ranching Heritage Center during the 57th Annual Ranch Day, a full day of cowboy culture, hands-on learning, and family friendly activities. The grounds come to life with working cowboys, cattle, sheep, and horses, along with interactive stations that explore the history, skills, and science of ranching. Visitors can meet livestock, learn about branding and ear tagging, take part in a stick horse rodeo, and learn shooting and archery with support from Cabela’s Outpost. Watch professional horse demonstrations, discover native plants, insects, and wildlife, and explore historic ranching practices among many other activities. Admission is free, and a $5 donation is welcomed. Food and beverages will be available for purchase by cash or card. Children can complete the Ranch Hand Experience by finishing six activities, including two focused on Ranch History, one on Ranch Science, one on Ranch Skill, and two of their choice. Afterward, they can take their work cards to the Matador Office to receive pay and redeem their earnings for prizes. Scheduled programs will be announced. Drama Classes for Individuals in Recovery

At Second Baptist Church, this multi-week program offers two connected sessions designed for people in recovery. The Recovery Play invites participants to develop an original performance exploring recovery from substance use, eating disorders, and trauma. Each collaborative piece runs about 30 minutes, written and performed by the entire group for invited guests. Following that, the drama class centers on personal storytelling through original monologues and scenes drawn from each person’s recovery journey. Techniques include improvisation, role play, scene setting, mirroring, and movement, along with other drama therapy methods. Participants create and present monologues that reflect a hardest day in addiction, a best day in recovery, and a message voiced from their Higher Power. The full 20-class series is $50 per person. "How to Use a Sketchbook: There Are No Rules" with Alita Lutrick

Artist Alita Lutrick leads an evening devoted to the creative possibilities of sketchbooks at the Buddy Holly Center. Discover how a sketchbook can capture observations, spark inspiration, and support practice, functioning like a personal journal or a guide shaped by the artist’s own choices. In March, the focus turns to characters in a steampunk style, cloud paintings, drawings of machine mazes, and three point glass houses. LBK Dogs Pack Gives Back: Volunteer Day at Lubbock Animal Shelter

This volunteer day at Lubbock Animal Shelter brings people together to support animals and daily shelter operations. Participants should arrive in long pants and closed-toed shoes, sign in at the front desk, then break into assigned groups and choose a task from a list provided by the Pack Leader. First-time volunteers will complete a waiver at the front desk before getting started. Typical help includes playing with dogs in the yards, washing bowls, cleaning kennels, and refilling water. The Buddy Holly Center presents its annual summer series, which includes live music performances and educational activities. These events occur every Thursday night from mid-May to mid-August in the Meadows Courtyard.

His most recent project, This Country Music Thing, debuted in the Top 10 on the Country Albums chart and has reached ten million streams. Highlights from the release include Two Steppin’ On The Moon, which led to a special performance for astronauts from Mission Control at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, and Unsung Hero, written about his grandfather’s World War II service and featured on NBC’s TODAY for Veterans Day. The Unsung Hero video premiered on CMT and appeared on the Paramount Times Square billboard. A Grammy-nominated South Carolina native, Turner has received multiple GMA Dove Award nominations and won in 2021 for I Saw The Light with Sonya Isaacs. He was honored with the Order of the Palmetto in 2023 and inducted into the South Carolina Entertainment and Music Hall of Fame in 2024. An arena of playful competition sets the stage for the inaugural Thunderdome fundraiser from F.O.E. #4271 benefiting Highpoint Village. Participants can buy numbered balloons for $5 each, which are placed in the arena. A robotic vacuum designed to pop balloons moves through, and the final balloon left unpopped wins. In each round, the winner shares the pot with the charity, and multiple rounds are planned. Commemorative drink cups will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the cause.
