WTMX Park Summer Night Race Series (Round 2)

Round 2 of the WTMX Park Summer Night Race Series brings an evening of fast laps and friendly competition to West Texas Motocross Park. This monthly summer series lets riders chase points and build a season of strong finishes, ending with an awards celebration once the series wraps. The program flows from gates opening to practice, followed by a rider meeting, then racing right after. Spectator admission is $20 cash at the gate, with free entry for kids 6 and under and for seniors 60 and over. Racer entry is $40 per race, per class. Riders can sign up at the track on race day, and details about pre-registration are available on the venue’s website. Classes span a wide range, including 50cc, 65cc, 85cc and Supermini categories, 250cc and 450cc skill divisions from beginner through pro, age brackets starting over 25 and moving up in decades, girls and ladies classes, youth-focused Schoolboy and Collegeboy, plus open classes for beginner, novice, intermediate and pro. Expect racing under the lights with a format designed to keep the action moving from practice to the final checkered flag.

The messy parts are handled on site, so families skip the cleanup. Each summer session features a unique theme with projects that build over the week, and this one highlights fantastical creatures. Downtown Midland marks America’s 250th birthday with a full day of community activities. The celebration begins with the 63rd Annual Children’s Parade. The event grounds will close for a portion of the day, then reopen later with more festivities, and the celebration culminates with a fireworks show. Admission is free for all attendees. A clear bag policy will be in effect along with security screening upon entry.

Hosted by MCH Trauma Services, this free monthly Fall Prevention/Stay Independent class helps participants understand personal fall risks and learn practical ways to reduce them. The session covers how to identify individual risk factors and apply prevention strategies that support continued independence. It is open to the public and no registration is required. Classes are held at Mission Fitness at the Center for Health and Wellness in Classrooms A and B. One in four adults age 65 and older experiences a fall each year, and falls are the leading cause of injury and death for this age group, so the guidance offered here is focused on lowering those risks.

FREE - Making Trading Cards for Creatives

Artist Trading Cards are miniature works of art, the size of a baseball card at 2.5 by 3.5 inches, that can often be finished in about 15 minutes and later traded at swap meets. To encourage creativity in the community, the Palette Club and ArtbyMalm are teaming up to host free summer gatherings focused on making these cards. Participants ages 8 through adult are welcome, and minors must be accompanied by an adult. The first five people at each session receive a kit to help them get started. Blank cards are available, and attendees should bring their own decorating supplies such as scissors, glue, markers, paint, pencils, and ephemera. Palette Club membership is not required. An ATC swap meet is planned for August for those who want to trade their creations.
