Mayo Arts MakerSpace Summer Hours

School is out and the Mayo Arts MakerSpace is expanding its offerings to keep creativity flowing all summer. The studio welcomes drop-in making, so visitors can create at their own pace and on their own schedule. It is a relaxed, family friendly activity for grandparents, babysitters, and imaginative makers of all ages who want to make art together, build memories, and enjoy a cool, creative break from the heat. A Summer MakerSpace Club option is available, which includes TRAHC membership and family access during open hours for a one time fee of $75, half the typical yearly rate. Regular daily admission is $10 per person. TRAHC’s Mayo Furniture Arts MakerSpace is an exploratory studio for all ages and skill levels. This hands-on environment encourages experimentation with a variety of unusual art materials through open ended projects instead of step by step instructions. The focus is on discovery, critical thinking, and creative problem solving. Challenges have many possible outcomes, inviting perseverance, curiosity, and personal expression. Experiences can be individual or collaborative, and rotating materials, prompts, and visual inspirations, including seasonal and holiday themes, ensure that each visit brings fresh ways to make.

Celebration of Champions

A three day sports skills camp presented by DC Sports ETX brings youth athletes together at Beverly Community Center for focused training, friendly competition, and confidence building on and off the field. Participants rotate through dedicated sessions in basketball and volleyball on the first day, football and track and field on the second, and softball and baseball on the final day. Coaches and sports professionals lead hands on drills, teach technique, and offer encouragement throughout. The registration fee is $30 per athlete. The experience concludes with a reception hosted by the NFL Alumni Dallas Chapter at the Hilton Garden Inn Texarkana, where all athletes are recognized. Highlights include awards, photo opportunities, community fellowship, and inspiration from former professional players. Community partners include DC Sports ETX, NFL Alumni Dallas Chapter, Byron Williams Best Wishes Foundation, Amachi Vision Corps, Beverly Community Center, and the Believe in Beverly Neighborhood Association. Fused Glass Bluebonnet Suncatcher Workshop

Create a 5 by 7 inch bluebonnet suncatcher under the guidance of glass artist Kathy Madison of A Glass Act Creations and her daughter Rachael in the Calhoun Studio at TRAHC's ArtSpace. Participants will plan and assemble their design during class, while the instructor completes the final firing afterward. Sample designs are provided as inspiration, and every piece will include a glass strip at the top with a chain so it can hang in a window or on a wall. Finished works will be ready for pickup about four to five days after class, and participants will be notified when they are available. All materials, tools, and safety gear are supplied by the artist and TRAHC. Tuition is nonrefundable unless fewer than nine people register. Open to ages 10 and up, with a parent required to accompany anyone under 16. Early registration at least one week in advance is encouraged to ensure materials are prepared. Glow Into The School Year

Riverview Behavioral Health is hosting the first annual Glow Into the School Year teen wellness block party, a free community event supporting local teens and families as the new school year approaches. Attendees can pick up free backpacks, enjoy food trucks and music, explore wellness activities, and connect with community resources, with opportunities for local organizations to engage with youth and caregivers across the Texarkana area. Vendor participation is welcome, and the organizers are seeking food trucks, community vendors, youth organizations, mental health providers, health and wellness resources, and nonprofit or community partners. 2nd Annual Wesley Burris Barbeque Cook-Off

The second annual Wesley Burris Barbecue Cookoff brings together barbecue enthusiasts for a flavorful showdown hosted by Marine Corps League Detachment 1149. Competitors face off in three categories... chicken, beef, and pork. Awards include first, second, and third place in each category, along with Best Overall and a People’s Choice honor. Spectators are welcome at no cost, and a $10 tasting and voting option is available. Competitor space is limited to 15 teams, with spots filled on a first come basis. Special guest judge Kountry Boy Kev will help select the winners, celebrating community, camaraderie, and plenty of smoky barbecue.

Vegas in T-Town brings a multi-round barrel racing showcase to Four States Fair & Rodeo with $6,500 added to the purse and a separate $6,000 bonus program that includes four saddles and other awards. Each round offers exhibitions before the race for $5 per run. Round 1 features a 4D race with $2,000 added and 100 percent payback, a $100 main entry with 80 percent payback, and Junior, Adult, and Senior sidepots at $30 each with 80 percent payback. Round 2 includes exhibitions, a Colt Showcase priced at $25 for two runs with a drag after every five and times recorded, followed by another 4D with $2,000 added and the same entry and sidepot options. Round 3 again provides exhibitions, a 4D race with $2,000 added and 100 percent payback, a $100 entry at 80 percent payback, and $30 sidepots at 80 percent payback. The Professional Gambler Sidepot adds $500 with 100 percent payback and is available to contestants who completed all five rounds in 2025, with a $30 entry at 80 percent payback. The $6,000 bonus, along with the saddles and other awards, is paid in 4D format based on the average of times from Rounds 1 through 3, and eligibility requires pre-entry in all three rounds. A social giveaway is also promoted for a chance at one free entry.
