Kawa's Give Back Night

Kawa’s Hibachi Grill & Lounge is hosting a give back night benefiting Tyler Type One. The restaurant will contribute 10 percent of sales from event diners to support resources for the local Type 1 Diabetes community. Guests can enjoy sushi and hibachi selections, and by mentioning “Tyler Type One” or “TTO” to their server when ordering, they ensure 10 percent of their purchase is directed to Tyler Type One.

Free Trees for Kids

The library is partnering with Neighborhood Forest to help children in the community plant a free tree at home for Earth Week. Participants have three ways to take part. Register a child to receive a free tree with pickup required. Purchase a tree to plant if you do not have a child, which also funds a tree for a young recipient. Contribute directly to support the program, and a $5 donation places a tree in a child's hands. Registration is open, and trees will be available for pickup at the library's Earth Day program with an additional pickup window afterward.

Junk Journal Swap

Bring along found bits from pockets, cars, purses, or junk drawers to trade and transform into one-of-a-kind junk journal pages at a relaxed swap-and-create session. If you need a base to work in, a journal will be available for $5, or bring one from home to decorate. Since this is a swap, participants provide the stash to share and use, with ideas including receipts, paper scraps, pressed flowers, buttons, washi tape, ribbon snippets, and small pieces of fabric. Space, scissors, and glue are provided, and the rest is up to your collection.

Texas Shoot Out

Enjoy Hunter Jumper horse shows, which include three main disciplines: Hunters, Jumper, and equitation. These shows test both horse and rider over fences. Hunter classes assess the horses style, movement, and manners, while jumper classes emphasize speed and accuracy. Equitation classes evaluate the riders form, and all divisions often feature classes both over fences and on the flat. Its fun for the entire family.

At UT Tyler Cowan Center, a stage adaptation of C. S. Lewis’s classic unfolds from a demon’s perspective, following Screwtape as he works to undermine an unsuspecting human soul. Set in an office in hell, the story flips moral expectations with sharp wit while exploring the nature of spiritual conflict. Drawn from the novel by the creator of The Chronicles of Narnia, the production has earned praise from major outlets including The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, The New York Times, and Christianity Today, and has played to capacity audiences across the United States and in London, with more than 500,000 people having attended. Brent Harris stars as Screwtape, and the show is directed by Fellowship for Performing Arts Founder and Artistic Director Max McLean. The performance is 90 minutes with no intermission. It is recommended for ages 13 and older, and children under 4 are not admitted. A question and answer session follows and is open to all attendees. Create & Connect Day Retreat

Designed for women seeking a creative reset, this day retreat in Tyler, Texas focuses on hands-on making and meaningful connection. At Tyler Public Library, the semiannual spring book sale offers multiple ways to shop. Friends of the Tyler Public Library members receive early access during a members-only presale held before the general sale. The event then features a Bag and Box Sale, where purchases are priced by container, with bag fills at $10 and box fills at $15. Bags are available while supplies last, and boxes are not provided.

Founded in 2009, HKRS introduces kids to running in a positive setting that builds confidence and self-esteem. As a national nonprofit rooted in local communities, it offers an inclusive, cross country inspired series that spans five weeks and welcomes ages 2 through 14. The experience helps children get active, feel proud of their progress, and build the foundation for lifelong healthy habits. The goal is to ignite a lasting “Get Up and Go” spirit.

Garden Gathering!

All are welcome to spend time with the ETX Community Gardeners at the WCL garden on Sundays. Drop-ins are flexible, with people coming and going throughout the morning and afternoon, so stop by whenever it works for you. If you plan to help with garden tasks, please bring gloves due to ants and some broken glass, and bring any tools you have, such as a shovel, rake, trowels, snips, or a pitchfork. Consider bringing a snack to share and some water for the plants. The garden does not yet have a water meter, so community water donations are appreciated, and a jug can be provided for transporting water if needed. Please note there is no bathroom on-site, though a gas station is located down the street.

East Texas Film Society partners with Liberty Hall for the second Member Pick, presenting Fargo. The sixth feature from the Coen Brothers follows a Minnesota car salesman whose botched scheme unravels, while the persistent and very pregnant Marge Gunderson keeps digging. This darkly comic crime story is known for sharp wit, distinctive style, and a streak of absurdity, adding to the brothers’ prolific body of work. Frances McDormand stars alongside William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi, Harve Presnell, and Peter Stormare. The film received recognition including Best Screenplay and Best Actress for McDormand. Rated R. East Texas Giving Day

As part of East Texas Giving Day, Rose City Wellness is hosting an all-day donation drive-thru to help reach a $2,500 goal that will make infant CPR classes free and affordable for community members, families, and caregivers. Donors can stay in their vehicles and receive coffee, tea, and treats as a thank-you. To add a bit of extra excitement, every 25th donor will receive a free gift. Shiloh Road Church of Christ hosts a one-time Certified Babysitter Training created with local child placing agencies to prepare and certify sitters who support foster families. Partner agencies include 4Kids4Families, Arrow, Bair, TBHC, Methodist Children’s Home, Grace Manor, Christian Homes, Azleway, UpBring, Hope Haven, Buckner, Compass Connection, and Noble. A hands-on Infant and Child CPR and First Aid segment is scheduled before the main class, and dinner is provided for those attending in person. There is also an option to participate virtually through Zoom. Participants must be 21 or older. After attending, completing the required paperwork, and earning Infant and Child CPR and First Aid certification, you may serve foster families for up to 72 hours. Garden Gathering!

A friendly meetup at the WCL garden brings together the ETX Community Gardeners for a relaxed, drop-in gathering where everyone is welcome, whether you want to lend a hand or simply say hello. Those planning to work in the beds are encouraged to bring gloves due to ants and broken glass, and any tools you have such as a shovel, rake, pitchfork, trowel, or snips are helpful. Bringing a snack to share is welcome, and water for the plants is especially appreciated. There is no water meter on site, so community water donations keep the garden growing, and a jug can be provided if you need one for transport. This festival at The Park of East Texas, Inc. brings Texas barbecue and live music from national acts together in one place. VIP includes early entry, samples from all barbecue restaurants, a festival T-shirt, two beverage coupons, a private seating area, and an exclusive standing area in front of the stage. Clue brings a comic murder mystery to Boddy Manor, where six enigmatic guests face a night of murder and blackmail as the investigation moves from the study to the library and beyond. Drawing inspiration from the classic Hasbro board game and based on the 1985 Paramount Pictures film, this twist-filled whodunit invites audiences to sift through suspects, rooms, and weapons until the final reveal. Tickets are available. Presented as part of the Cowan Center Performance Excellence Endowment Program.

Show Jumping Classic

This event showcases Hunter Jumper horse shows, encompassing Hunters, Jumper, and equitation disciplines. Horses and riders will be tested over fences. Hunters are judged on style, movement, and manners, while Jumpers are assessed on speed and accuracy. Equitation classes focus on the riders form.
