The library is partnering with Neighborhood Forest to help children in the community plant a free tree at home for Earth Week. Participants have three ways to take part. Register a child to receive a free tree with pickup required. Purchase a tree to plant if you do not have a child, which also funds a tree for a young recipient. Contribute directly to support the program, and a $5 donation places a tree in a child's hands. Registration is open, and trees will be available for pickup at the library's Earth Day program with an additional pickup window afterward.

C.S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters

At UT Tyler Cowan Center, a stage adaptation of C. S. Lewis’s classic unfolds from a demon’s perspective, following Screwtape as he works to undermine an unsuspecting human soul. Set in an office in hell, the story flips moral expectations with sharp wit while exploring the nature of spiritual conflict. Drawn from the novel by the creator of The Chronicles of Narnia, the production has earned praise from major outlets including The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, The New York Times, and Christianity Today, and has played to capacity audiences across the United States and in London, with more than 500,000 people having attended. Brent Harris stars as Screwtape, and the show is directed by Fellowship for Performing Arts Founder and Artistic Director Max McLean. The performance is 90 minutes with no intermission. It is recommended for ages 13 and older, and children under 4 are not admitted. A question and answer session follows and is open to all attendees. All are welcome to spend time with the ETX Community Gardeners at the WCL garden on Sundays. Drop-ins are flexible, with people coming and going throughout the morning and afternoon, so stop by whenever it works for you. If you plan to help with garden tasks, please bring gloves due to ants and some broken glass, and bring any tools you have, such as a shovel, rake, trowels, snips, or a pitchfork. Consider bringing a snack to share and some water for the plants. The garden does not yet have a water meter, so community water donations are appreciated, and a jug can be provided for transporting water if needed. Please note there is no bathroom on-site, though a gas station is located down the street.

East Texas Film Society partners with Liberty Hall for the second Member Pick, presenting Fargo. The sixth feature from the Coen Brothers follows a Minnesota car salesman whose botched scheme unravels, while the persistent and very pregnant Marge Gunderson keeps digging. This darkly comic crime story is known for sharp wit, distinctive style, and a streak of absurdity, adding to the brothers’ prolific body of work. Frances McDormand stars alongside William H. Certified Babysitter Training

Shiloh Road Church of Christ hosts a one-time Certified Babysitter Training created with local child placing agencies to prepare and certify sitters who support foster families. Partner agencies include 4Kids4Families, Arrow, Bair, TBHC, Methodist Children’s Home, Grace Manor, Christian Homes, Azleway, UpBring, Hope Haven, Buckner, Compass Connection, and Noble. A hands-on Infant and Child CPR and First Aid segment is scheduled before the main class, and dinner is provided for those attending in person. There is also an option to participate virtually through Zoom. Participants must be 21 or older. After attending, completing the required paperwork, and earning Infant and Child CPR and First Aid certification, you may serve foster families for up to 72 hours. If you need CPR and First Aid certification, an additional $60 is paid to E&E Heartsavers via Venmo at Nancy-Elliott-CPR, then send a text to Nancy at 903-714-5101 with your name and email address to begin the online portion of the course.

A friendly meetup at the WCL garden brings together the ETX Community Gardeners for a relaxed, drop-in gathering where everyone is welcome, whether you want to lend a hand or simply say hello. Those planning to work in the beds are encouraged to bring gloves due to ants and broken glass, and any tools you have such as a shovel, rake, pitchfork, trowel, or snips are helpful. Bringing a snack to share is welcome, and water for the plants is especially appreciated. There is no water meter on site, so community water donations keep the garden growing, and a jug can be provided if you need one for transport. This festival at The Park of East Texas, Inc. brings Texas barbecue and live music from national acts together in one place. VIP includes early entry, samples from all barbecue restaurants, a festival T-shirt, two beverage coupons, a private seating area, and an exclusive standing area in front of the stage. A tropical themed run from Bigfoot Running Company brings a splash of luau style and bright colors to race day. Participants can choose the Kids Dash, the 1 mile route, the 5K, or the 10K, making it a family friendly option for a wide range of ages and abilities. The start and finish area features lively music and a festive photo backdrop for pictures after the race. Leis are given out during the event. Finishers receive medals and race shirts, with a special medal for Kids Dash runners. A tropical treat awaits at the finish, and optional add on swag is available for extra flair, including items such as coconut cups, surfboard sunglasses, cooling towels, hula skirts, and more.
