Taking its name from Tyree Nesbitt’s Kapwa, inspired by the Filipino idea of a shared self, the evening brings together music by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, George Walker, Jeff Scott, and Tyree Nesbitt. Listeners can look forward to lyrical passages, reflective pauses, and moments of celebration that unfold as a story grounded in care and empathy. Øra nØir is an independent Virginia-based saxophone quartet devoted to chamber performances that feel personal, distinctive, and welcoming. Formed with the goal of reimagining how classical music is experienced, the ensemble curates programs that blend familiar repertoire with new works they champion, with Black composers and artistry central to that vision. Celebrate the songs of John Denver with a performance featuring Jim Curry, a vocalist who received a Rotary International scholarship in music and voice and was chosen to sing as Denver’s voice in the CBS television film Take Me Home, the John Denver Story. A devoted fan, he shares Denver’s music and its message of love and care for the planet with new generations. Since 2002, Curry and his band have brought these beloved songs to audiences, with members of Denver’s original band joining him at some of the country’s most prestigious venues. His preservation efforts include collaborating with Lee Holdridge to rebuild and safeguard Denver’s original symphonic arrangements. Career highlights include performing at the Colorado Music Hall of Fame induction honoring John Denver, hosted by Olivia Newton John, and hosting the official John Denver Estate show that toured the United States and Australia. His recent project, Such a Wild Place, produced by Pete Huttlinger and Chris Nole, features four songs co-written by Curry along with three previously unreleased John Denver compositions. He continues to share these heartfelt tunes in symphony halls, performing arts centers, and on cruise ships around the world.

The Capital City Showcase brings a lively blend of trivia, stand-up comedy, and karaoke to Highline RxR. Hosted by Christian Hunt and headlined by Dom Grayer, the show spotlights comics from the DC area and keeps the energy high from start to finish. Form a team or play on your own and tackle three rounds of trivia for a shot at prizes. The leading teams then send one singer each into a karaoke showdown, and the audience picks the winner. Between the games, enjoy a full stand-up set, and after the competition the mic opens for a regular sign-up karaoke session so everyone can sing. Every attendee is welcome to participate or simply enjoy the entertainment. Group reservations of six to eight qualify for $10 tickets per person, and individual tickets are $15. Free parking is available in the lot next to the venue, and it is a short walk from the Crystal City Metro Station.

An acoustic evening with Hot Tuna at The Birchmere spotlights the enduring partnership of Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady, whose roots trace back to Jefferson Airplane. As Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members and Grammy recipients, they bring a lifetime of blues and American roots exploration to the stage, shaped by nearly six decades of playing together. Their performances are known for spontaneity and fresh improvisation, with intricate fingerstyle guitar, inventive bass lines, and a warm rapport with the audience. Drawing on a body of work that spans more than two dozen albums, Hot Tuna continues to evolve while staying true to the blues traditions that first inspired them, creating a spirited, intimate acoustic experience.

Beginners ages 7 to 12 can step into the spotlight at a rock band camp that teaches through play. No prior experience is needed. Campers explore different instruments and build skills through musical games and hands on activities in a supportive setting for new musicians. Throughout the week, participants rehearse songs Monday through Friday to get ready to perform with a band on stage. The experience wraps up with a concert for family and friends at the end of the week.

Inspira Dance debuts a West Coast Swing lesson and social at Ballston Quarter. The event begins with a beginner friendly class, followed by an all levels session for those who know the basics, both led by guest instructors Anthony and Mara. After the lessons, put what you learned into practice during a social dance with music by special guest Stef. No partner or prior dance experience is required. A $15 cover includes the lessons and open dancing. Paid garage parking is available, and there is access to the metro. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Inspira Dance, helping fund high quality dance programs in Title 1 public schools.

Experience Rosslyn LIVE at Gateway Park, an outdoor celebration that pairs live music with food trucks and an on-site pub-style area, offering plenty of space to relax and connect with neighbors and coworkers. Guests are welcome to bring picnic blankets and chairs for comfort, though outside alcohol is prohibited. This edition features Justin Trawick and the Common Good on stage.
