SEEC Enrollment Tour
Get an inside look at SEEC’s programs for two and three year olds during an enrollment tour at the American History center in the National Museum of American History. The session focuses on the 2026 to 2027 school year, with eligibility for children born September 2022 through August 2023 for the threes group and September 2023 through April 2024 for the twos group. Attendees will learn about SEEC’s approach to learning for this age range, visit selected classroom spaces, and receive details about the enrollment process. These tours are intended for caregivers. If bringing a child, a stroller or carrier is recommended. Each tour is specific to one of SEEC’s three centers and to a particular age group, so please confirm that your child’s birth date falls within the ranges listed.

Courage Mother is a Northern Virginia post-hardcore project led by Salvadoran American songwriter Lily Monico, created from a drive to overcome and known for high intensity, structurally adventurous songs that confront trauma and foster growth. This 5K takes place on a mostly flat, paved trail, with both the start and the finish inside Bluemont Park. Bluemont Junction Park has ties to the former W&OD Railway and features a retired Bluemont Junction caboose. Awards recognize the overall top three finishers and masters winners, plus the top three male and female runners in 10-year age groups. Registration is free for members and $10 for nonmembers, with members receiving an automatic $10 discount at checkout. The DC Improv brings back its well-known trivia contest for a single-night return, echoing the run it enjoyed from 2008 to 2018. To mark America 250, the quiz focuses on Americana, and the winning team will earn a $250 prize. Because it is happening in a comedy club, bold teams may be invited on stage for a special creative challenge. Groups may include up to eight players. There is no cover charge, and seats can be locked in by registering online for a small per-person service fee. The usual two-item minimum at the Improv will be in effect.

The recommended Metro stop is L’Enfant Plaza, which serves the Blue, Silver, Orange, Green, and Yellow lines.

Step into Arlington’s story at a festive evening hosted by the Arlington Historical Society at the Arlington Historical Museum. Explore a timeline that stretches from 1776 through the Bicentennial to today with interactive stations, 1970s-themed activities, music, trivia, and hands-on experiences that bring the past to life. Historian Dr. Mark Benbow will offer a featured talk on the Bicentennial. Attendees are invited to embrace the Threads of ’76 dress theme by wearing their favorite 1970s style. National Postal Museum education specialists MaryBeth Wagner and Maureen Leary share insights on the Pony Express. NMNH museum specialists Tim Gooding and Rob Wardell from the Smithsonian HAM Radio Club highlight the role of amateur radio and demonstrate equipment. NMNH exhibit educators lead hands-on activities where you can match emojis to their official names and associated feelings, decode a message in Morse code, and compare current smartphones with earlier telephone models. Hal Wallace, a curator in the Division of Work and Industry at the National Museum of American History, discusses the transatlantic telegraph cable and the place of amateur radio during World War II. The program also highlights messenger pigeons, including the story of Cher Ami. Registration is free and encouraged, and space is available on a first come, first served basis.
Opera on Tap presents: Too Hot to Handel
Get ready for a heat themed program packed with songs about summer, soaring temperatures, being overheated and smitten, and maybe even a nod to Handel. Paula Atherton brings her saxophone, vocals, and songwriting to Blues Alley for two separate shows. The New York based artist moves between contemporary and traditional jazz, having appeared with The Rippingtons, Nick Colionne, Chuck Loeb, Cindy Bradley, Brian Simpson, Four80East, David Sanborn, Bob James, Marc Antoine, Hiroshima, Gerald Albright, and Chieli Minucci. Her live resume also includes a week of performances at the Blue Note in New York with pianist Hank Jones, along with a set alongside Grammy winner Dee Dee Bridgewater at the Annenberg Theater for the Palm Springs Women’s Jazz Festival. Her sixth album, Can You Feel It, featured a lead single of the same name co written and produced with Greg Manning that reached number one on Mediabase, led the Smooth Jazz Network for four weeks, and topped Billboard for three weeks. She has earned 13 Billboard Top 30 singles, ranked as the number three Airplay Artist on Billboard’s year end 2022 chart, and received Smooth Jazz Network nominations for Best Artist in 2020 and 2023. Can You Feel It includes work from producers Greg Manning, Paul Brown, Nate Mitchell, Matt Godina, Schuyler Deale, and Lou Gimenez. Her seventh full length release, Dancin’ Shoes, arrived in 2024 with four top ten singles and seven previously unreleased tracks.

The flow of the evening moves from an opening movement practice into the main ecstatic dance set with DJ Electrocute, followed by a restorative sound bath and a closing circle. Participants are asked to keep voices off the dance floor, avoid alcohol, smoking and drugs, and skip photos and video. Phones stay silenced and out of sight. Care for the space and one another, move in whatever way feels right, and dance solo or with partners. If declining an invitation to dance, place palms together at the heart as a polite no. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring water in a refillable bottle, with refills available at the venue. Admission is $25 whether purchased online or at the door. Jazz artist Justin Kauflin, a recipient of multiple accolades, performs alongside six up and coming disabled musicians in a showcase for the 2026 Access/VSA International Young Musicians Program. The event takes place inside the Library of Congress Jefferson Building in Washington, DC. It honors Disability Pride Month and recognizes the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Mentored by Clark Terry and a collaborator with Quincy Jones, Kauflin weaves post bop and gospel influences into his playing, and his work has been highlighted by the New York Times, DownBeat, the New Yorker, and the Los Angeles Times. After losing his vision at age 11, he built a career centered on music, mentorship, and advocacy, and he is a 2012 alumnus of the Access/VSA program, reflecting the potential of young musicians with disabilities. For more than four decades, the International Young Musicians initiative has supported young disabled artists with resources for career development, and this year's cohort spans classical, rock, R&B, and other styles. The presentation is organized by the Kennedy Center’s Access/VSA program in collaboration with the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled and the Music Division of the Library of Congress. From the Lincoln, the group continues to Haynes Point via Ohio Drive, with a choice to add a 3 mile loop for roughly 12 miles total or relax by the water for about 8.5 miles overall. Multiple options exist for the return to Pershing Park, chosen according to the group’s comfort and skill. The terrain is mostly flat with smooth pavement, featuring a gentle slope near the Washington Monument and a short 40 yard descent from the Lincoln toward Ohio Drive. More advanced skaters may opt to cross the 14th Street bridge for a few rolling hills and finish with a downhill through the 12th Street tunnel. Participants are encouraged to bring lights for visibility and fun, such as a helmet bike light, decorative lights, or lighted wheels. Weather may lead to a cancellation via the event post. Starr and The Czars team up with Teen Cobra for an intimate hometown night in DC before heading to Scandinavia in mid August. The show takes place in the Red Room, is open to all ages, and is priced at $20. It is expected to sell out. Starr and The Czars, from Washington, DC, bring together seasoned garage rock players in a new lineup led by Jake Starr of Adam West, Jake Starr & The Delicious Fullness, Go Mod Go!, and Goy Division. Peter Greenberg and Michael Lewis, known for their work with DMZ and The Lyres, are part of the group, with Sean Crowley of The Hall Monitors sharing lead vocals and guitar, and Nathaniel Osgood of The Hall Monitors on drums. They deliver what they call unauthorized garage gospel, a fuzz-heavy, foot-stomping sound driven by raw urgency. Their debut album, It’s the Bad Times, packs 12 tracks built for high volume. Teen Cobra, a Venezuelan lo fi punk duo via Washington, DC, formed in 2018 with Neil on guitar and vocals and Veronica on drums and vocals. Their stripped down setup of guitar, snare, and floor tom channels influences from 60s garage rock, the late 70s CBGB scene, British post punk, and more. Both courses follow a flat, light gravel path on an out and back route with minimal elevation change. The half marathon starts and finishes in Georgetown near the Potomac Boat Club, while the 5k begins and ends at Fletcher’s Boathouse. Walkers are welcome. Participants can earn points toward the Year-Long 5k, Endurance, Back of the Pack, and Summer Series. A virtual option is available for those who cannot attend in person. Registered runners receive a finisher medal, a technical drifit shirt, and chip timing. Water stations are planned throughout the courses, including multiple stops on the half marathon and one on the 5k, with water and Gatorade at select locations. Restrooms will be available near check-in areas. There is no formal bag check, and any personal items left at the finish line timing area are at your own risk. Live results will be available with on-site QR codes for immediate updates, and final results with series points will be posted after the race. Optional SMS runner tracking is offered during registration. Awards recognize the top three men and women overall, plus first and second place in age groups 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 plus. Overall winners are not eligible for age group awards. Event photos will be shared on social media after the race. Packet pickup is available on race day, and early arrival is recommended. There is no on-site race day registration. The half marathon and 5k start and finish at separate locations along the canal path, so plan parking accordingly. 2026 Summer Georgetown 5k/10k/Half
Enjoy a summer race day on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal path with half marathon, 10k, and 5k options in the heart of Georgetown near the Nation’s Capital. The half marathon starts and finishes by the Potomac Boat Club, while the 5k and 10k begin and end at Fletcher’s Boathouse. All distances follow a packed-gravel canal towpath with a very gentle grade, heading out and returning along the same corridor. Walkers are welcome, and a virtual option is available for anyone who prefers to participate remotely. Participants receive a finisher medal, a technical race shirt, and chip timing. Performances count toward the organizer’s Year-Long 5k, 10k, Endurance, and Back of the Pack Series, as well as the Summer Series. The Back of the Pack program is designed for athletes who typically run at more relaxed paces and offers a way to earn series points alongside peers… it is not a cutoff. Overall awards go to the top three men and women, with additional recognition for the top two in standard age groups from 19 and under through 70 plus. Live results will be available during the event, with final results and series points posted afterward, and opt-in runner tracking is offered during registration. Support is provided on course with multiple water stations for every distance, with sports drink at select stops. Restrooms are available near the half marathon check-in area and at the 5k/10k start and finish. Race packets can be picked up at the event. There is no on-site race day registration. There is no formal bag check, though small items may be left at the timing area at the participant’s discretion. The half marathon has an official completion window, and runners expecting to finish near that limit can arrange an earlier start with the organizer. The event proceeds in a variety of weather conditions, and any changes will be shared with registered runners. Photos taken by staff will be posted on the organizer’s social media after the race. This event supports Operation Turbo through an event partnership. Please note that the half marathon and the 5k/10k start and finish at different locations along the canal, so plan parking with your chosen distance in mind.

The Daydreamerz connect the DMV and Baltimore with a blend of R&B, jazz, rock, gospel, and neo-soul. With members whose backgrounds span Guatemala, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Philadelphia, and the Bay Area, they channel Black and Brown unity into a singular, soulful voice, resonating with fans of Hiatus Kaiyote, The Roots, D’Angelo, and Erykah Badu. Rounding out the show, Maryland producer and musician Brody Steck performs as Broo Stoo, a solo project shaped by experiments with auto-tune, an SP404, and drum machines. After finishing the track Electric Consideration, he revisited earlier demos to form a cohesive EP. The first single Touchdown is out now, with the full Electric Consideration EP slated for later this summer. Steck is also a founding member of local bands Makeup Girl and Trinomial, and listeners into Homeshake, Kaytranada, or Gorillaz may find plenty to love.

Their rise included the 2018 release You Are Here and supporting runs with Little Simz, Little Dragon, and Mura Masa. In 2021 they pushed into rougher, darker territory with Pit of My Dreams, a cathartic response to burnout. A significant crossover followed in 2023 with Slipping Into Color, a collaborative EP with Little Dragon made in Gothenburg and released on Ninja Tune, after which they served as the main supporting act on Little Dragon’s North American and European tours. They are now preparing Traditional Noise, a debut album that reframes the sounds of their youth into unfamiliar shapes to challenge pop conventions and unlock the feelings of nostalgia while addressing persistent anxieties. Evil brings a searching perspective that asks whether darkness is innate or learned. Through songs grounded in dark alternative country and the twang of a banjo tied to the Shenandoah Valley foothills, the project explores the nature of wickedness through a personal lens, engaging complex relationships with queer identity, faith, and race.

The route begins at the National World War I Memorial, also called Pershing Park, with a meet point at the northeast corner by the cement benches. After a gentle warmup to the capital, the group rolls along the Mall and its museums to the Washington Monument, then continues past the World War II Memorial to the Lincoln Memorial. Those seeking a shorter outing can turn back to Pershing Park for a total of about 5.5 miles. Others will continue from the Lincoln to Haynes Point via Ohio Drive, choosing either an extra three mile loop for roughly 12 miles overall or relaxing by the water for an 8.5 mile total. There are several options for returning to the World War I Memorial, and the exact path will reflect the group’s preferences and skill level. The terrain is mostly flat with smooth pavement, with a small slope near the Washington Monument and another short 40 yard slope from the Lincoln to Ohio Drive. Advanced skaters may add a crossing of the 14th Street Bridge, a few rolling hills, and a final downhill through the 12th Street tunnel. Lights are encouraged so everyone can have fun, see, and be seen, and many skaters enjoy helmet lights, decorative strands, and lighted wheels. Plans may change if the weather turns, so look for any updates on the event post. All skating is at your own risk.

The seventh annual DC LIVE all-black semi-formal gala returns to the Westin Downtown DC Hotel, bringing entrepreneurs and professionals together for an elegant night of live music, networking, and celebration. This year marks the 10th anniversary of A-List Of Entertainment and introduces the launch of a minority owned 3D embossed license plate hat company, promoted as a world first. The entertainment lineup features DCVYBE, Black Alley, Bela’Dona, and Top5, with a national recording artist to be announced and a surprise performance. Lonnie Bee and ASIA from Majic 102.3 host the evening, while DJ Rico and DJ Biggs spin classic hip hop, soul, Afro-soca, R&B, funk, and go-go. Guests can expect premium wine and spirits, champagne, food, memorable moments throughout the night, and award-winning photographers capturing the occasion in the hotel’s newly renovated ballroom.
