At Songbyrd DC, Bandits on the Run shares the bill with Sam Sample. Bandits on the Run is a trio formed after a subway busking encounter on the Brooklyn and Queens border, with Adrian Blake Enscoe, Sydney Shepherd, and Regina Strayhorn trading lead vocals and instruments. Their sound blends acoustic, electric, and bass guitars with cello and accordion, adds inventive percussion like suitcases turned into kick drums, and occasionally features a megaphone. Their three part harmonies have rung out while opening for The Wood Brothers’ East Coast tour, on main stages at Colorado’s Rocky Mount Folks Fest and Michigan’s Blissfest, and during a sold out residency at Manhattan’s Bowery Electric. Their songs have appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk and The Moth Story Slam, as well as in Netflix’s Ask the StoryBots and the feature film The Same Storm. Known for theatrical indie folk and rich storytelling, they adapted text for a production of As You Like It that later became the EP The Shakespeare Tapes, and they tour widely with stops at Cambridge Folk Festival, Floydfest, Summerfest Milwaukee, Americanafest, the F1 Singapore Grand Prix, Mile of Music, and more. Sam Sample brings a self coined AmeriRock style that fuses Americana storytelling with the edge of indie and alternative rock. She self funds her craft through a day job and pours her spare time and resources into songwriting. Her debut album, I’m Moving to the Moon, recorded between her NYC apartment and Bear Creek Studio with Grammy nominated producer Ryan Hadlock and Taylor James Carroll, has surpassed 2.5 million streams and helped spark sold out shows. Drawing on a Georgia upbringing, Manhattan drive, years spent in the UK, and a background in neuroscience, her lyrics are noted for raw, reflective depth. She recently wrapped the HOMECOMING headline tour across the American South and is preparing her sophomore LP, Look in the Mirror and Beg, along with her first festival billing at Americanafest.

Light up your wheels for a night skate that takes in Washington, DC’s monuments glowing after dark. The group meets at the National World War I Memorial, also known as Pershing Park, at the northeast corner by the cement benches. A gentle warm-up heads toward the Capitol, then along the Mall and past the museums to the Washington Monument, continuing to the Lincoln Memorial through the World War II Memorial. Skaters who prefer a shorter outing can turn back for a 5.5 mile total to Pershing Park. Those continuing will roll from the Lincoln to Haynes Point via Ohio Drive, with a choice between a 3 mile loop for a 12 mile total or a relaxed stop by the water for an 8.5 mile total. There are several ways to return to Pershing Park, and the route back will be chosen based on the group’s preferences and skill level. Most of the terrain is flat with smooth pavement, with a small descent from the Washington Monument and a brief 40 yard slope from the Lincoln to Ohio Drive. More advanced skaters may add a crossing of the 14th St bridge, a few rolling hills, and a finishing downhill through the 12th St. tunnel. Lights are encouraged so everyone can see and be seen, whether on a helmet, wheels, or other gear. All skating is at your own risk.

Frolick Dogs, recognized as an AKC Fit Dog Club for encouraging owners and their dogs to reach fitness goals together, hosts a quarterly group fitness walk at Oronoco Bay Park. Victor Wooten and his brothers Regi, Roy, and Joseph bring a family legacy that began with a first public performance in Hawaii in 1966. Their roots are in R&B, and as teens they expanded into jazz, jazz fusion, classical, and country. A longstanding golf tournament at Army Navy Country Club brings together players and supporters to benefit the Yellow Ribbon Fund. For almost two decades, this partnership has raised nearly three million dollars to assist post-9/11 wounded, ill, and injured service members and their families. Robert Cray and his band bring the All Amped Up Tour to The Birchmere, celebrating a career that spans blues, soul, and rock. Born in Georgia and raised in Washington, he picked up the guitar after seeing The Beatles on TV and, after witnessing Jimi Hendrix in Seattle, chose a path dedicated to music. Across more than five decades he has carved out a sound that is entirely his own, breathing new life into blues and soul while delivering the punch of rock. His body of work includes 19 studio albums and five Grammy Awards. Still devoted to the craft that launched his journey, he continues to perform songs that could belong to no one else.

The VII Corps DSVA marks its 35th anniversary with a single, multi-day gathering that brings together the reunion, a memorial ceremony, and a golf scramble. Activities will be centered at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Virginia, with the golf portion held at a nearby course. The event focuses on honoring 111 fallen and reflecting on service during Desert Storm. A registration site and additional details are planned.

A second album, It’s Me Again, continued her momentum, followed by the EP Simply Tweet and the full-length Charlene. More recently, she signed with SRG-ILS Group and introduced Toot-Toot as the lead single for her forthcoming fourth album, Memoirs of The Southern Hummingbird.

The Catholic Art Institute conference explores how beauty can open a path to evangelization through talks, conversation, and community around the sacred arts. Presenters include Fr. Robert McTeigue, SJ, who hosts The Catholic Current, Dr. Jem Sullivan, who wrote The Beauty of Faith, Nicolas Charbonneau, a noted designer of sacred architecture, Peter Carter, who founded the Catholic Sacred Music Project, Martin Earle, a British artist working in the sacred tradition, William Heyer, an architect in the classical tradition, David Riccio, a master craftsperson with Canning Liturgical Arts, and William Newton, an art critic and author who will moderate Q&A. Alongside the sessions, the program offers opportunities to connect with artists and clergy and to engage in conversations about renewing the sacred arts today. Exhibitors span organizations such as Canning Liturgical Arts, Beyer Studio Contrasts Wood Carving, Dei Gratia Sacred Arts, Exquisite Arts, King Richards Liturgical Design, St. Jude Liturgical Arts Studio, and Willet Studios.

Choose between a chip timed 5k or 10k that starts and finishes near Port City Brewing and follows Holmes Run for water views on a mostly flat, paved route with a brief light gravel section. The 10k completes the out and back twice. After finishing, participants receive a beer from Port City Brewing, a finisher medal, and a technical event shirt. Points from this race count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k, and Back of the Pack Series, as well as the Sippin Series. A virtual option is available for those who cannot attend in person. Water stations are set along the course, with two on the 5k and five on the 10k, and some will offer Gatorade. Restrooms are available inside Port City Brewing. Live results and a QR code on site make it easy to view times quickly, with final results and series points posted afterward. Optional text updates let friends and family follow your progress. Awards will honor the top three men and women overall, plus the first and second place finishers in age groups 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69, and 70 plus. Packet pickup and race day registration are available on site, though shirt sizes are not guaranteed for race day registrants. Staff photos will be shared on social media after the event, and a social media challenge offers a chance at 50 percent off a future race for tagged posts. This event supports NoVA Rugby, whose mission is to provide educational and competitive rugby opportunities, including a women's club in the greater Washington DC area with a three time national champion Division 1 side and a competitive Division 2 team. The race is held in most weather conditions, and only registered participants are permitted on course. Parking is available in a large lot across the street from Port City Brewing.

Their timing and ease grow from a friendship that began on the set of the 1986 film “Three Amigos.” They have toured together since 2015, when they launched their first live collaboration, “A Very Stupid Conversation.” The evening focuses on making each other laugh as much as the crowd, delivering a lively, self-aware comedy showcase from two masters of the craft.

The Wellermen bring their transatlantic folk sound to The Birchmere, evolving from a viral sea-song breakthrough into a fully realized live group with a global following. Their rise began in 2021 when shanty performances caught fire online, leading to appearances at The BRIT Awards and on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Now their music reaches beyond sea shanties into contemporary folk, anchored by resonant five-part harmonies and a distinctive two-bass vocal core. American bass vocalists Bobby Waters and Luke Taylor blend East Coast folk character with the UK musicianship of Jonny Stewart and Seb Payne, while Sam Pope contributes theatrical flair from his West End background. With the EP 1778 and new original work ahead, the show reflects a commitment to roots traditions, rich harmony, storytelling, and connection.

Rufus Wainwright performs with Hohnen Ford at The Birchmere. Celebrated by The New York Times for his originality, the New York-born, Montreal-raised artist has built a wide-ranging career as a vocalist, songwriter, and composer. His body of work includes ten studio albums, several concert films and recordings, and the Grammy-nominated live release Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall.
