Explore the legacy of the Christiansburg Industrial Institute through an interactive talk and creative tile-painting activity at the Blacksburg Library. Guided by CI, Inc. interns Jordin Harris and Sasha Halfon-DeLay with support from staff, the program traces the school’s beginnings, its impact as a center of Black and industrial education in Southwest Virginia, and its connections to the broader history of slavery, Reconstruction, industrialization, and Jim Crow. Participants will paint tiles inspired by the stories and themes discussed, then see their pieces combined into a single mosaic that honors collective memory, encourages community conversation, and underscores a continuing commitment to stewardship.
