Percival’s Island Lot hosts a Batteau Launch Party that opens the 41st annual batteau festival with live entertainment from the Hackensaw Boys. Local drummers bring original music and choreography to the stage in a dynamic showcase. Tickets are available.

MTG Marvel Super Heroes Prerelease Events

Two prerelease events spotlight the upcoming Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes set. Entry is $40 and includes four rounds of play, with one booster from the new set awarded for each win. Players who attend both events will receive an additional play booster. Approximately 50 seats are available for each event. Plan for about an hour and a half on foot, covering just over a half mile on a route that is accessible-friendly.

Drawing on the words of James Baldwin, it calls listeners to see with greater clarity, care with greater depth, and act with greater justice. With richly layered harmonies, spoken narrative, and movement, Sweet Honey in the Rock shapes an inclusive experience that welcomes people of every background, ability, and identity. Waterfront Ghost Tour

Explore the old waterfront in Downtown Lynchburg on a one hour tour that traces the city’s beginnings and how it came to be. Along the way, there are two spirit box demonstrations and chances to learn where former Civil War hospitals once stood. The experience also includes accounts of life in the region before the city was established, shared by members of the Monacan Nation. The waterfront has seen frequent activity during the past three years of tours and is said to rarely disappoint.

Virginia’s “The Heat” Functional Fitness Partner Competition

Central Virginia’s biggest partner-based functional fitness competition is a nighttime event under the lights at The Heroes Home and Chainbreakers Fitness. Teams of two can enter RX or Scaled divisions, with pairings of M/F, M/M, or F/F. Each division accepts up to 16 teams. RX athletes should be ready for pull ups, double unders, Olympic lifting, and other advanced functional work. The Scaled division features jumping pull ups, single unders, knee raises, and foundational lifts. A prize purse of $5,000 is planned, with cash awards for first, second, and third place. The amount depends on full division registration and may change. Entry is $199 per team, and a 20 percent discount is available with code READYTOGO, which brings the listed cost to $79 per person. The session is in a quiet, private room with a movie-quality set, lighting, sounds, and scents. The Game Master has 10 years of experience, and welcomes new players and veterans. Academy Youth Theatre : Young Actors Camp Peter Pan PM CAMP

This theatre camp for ages 6 to 10 only introduces budding performers to the adventurous world of Peter, Tinker Bell, Wendy, and the Lost Kids. Everyone who registers receives a role, with auditions used to place specific parts. Campers build confidence through storytelling, acting, and teamwork as they rehearse a simply staged Peter Pan adaptation supported by familiar public domain songs. Created with first-time performers in mind, this half-day format keeps things engaging and approachable. Enrollment is limited to 15 participants to ensure plenty of individual attention while preparing a cheerful performance of about 30 minutes that features mischievous pirates and a certain captain who winds up walking the plank. Teens ages 13 to 17 can step behind the scenes at AquaZoo in a hands-on Jr. Zookeeper Summer Camp. Participants take part in authentic keeper tasks, including documenting animal care, helping with enrichment projects, and exploring staff-only areas while learning how professionals support animal health, behavior, and daily husbandry. The program offers practical insight into zoo operations and pathways related to animal care and veterinary interests through close-up learning with resident animals. Capacity is limited. AquaZoo also offers interactive aquatic and animal experiences featuring fish, reptiles, mammals, and more, with themed exhibits and engaging encounters that encourage learning.

Teen Pottery Camp

Pre-teens and teens can dive into clay in a welcoming studio setting, learning essential pottery skills while creating both functional and decorative pieces. From Monday to Wednesday, the focus is on the pottery wheel, practicing how to center clay, shape it, and form a variety of vessels. On Thursday, students refine their work by trimming, adding handles, and exploring surface design with appliqué and other decorative touches. Friday features a painting and decorating session, using colored slip to personalize each piece with color and finishing details. Across the week, most participants complete eight to twelve works. After the camp concludes, everything is glazed and kiln fired, then ready for pickup in about two weeks, with an email sent when the pieces are available. No prior experience is required, just an interest in getting creative. Designed for ages 11 to 15, this Monday through Friday camp takes place at May Carter Pottery Studio. The fee is $150, and scholarships are available. Instruction is led by Ben Burris, a ceramic artist pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts who began working with clay at 40. His practice draws on traditional wheel-thrown forms influenced by Asian aesthetics and emphasizes natural textures and surfaces, and he is committed to sharing the transformative nature of pottery with students.

In this atmosphere of secrets and suspicion, every conversation matters and every clue could change the story. Featuring Blood on the Clocktower for 15 players, this social deduction experience unfolds in Ravenswood Bluff. Participants take on roles as townsfolk or the hidden killer. A murderer stalks the community, and players investigate, share information, and vote to identify the culprit before more victims fall. If assigned the role of the killer, misdirection and bluffing become essential. Vintage attire is encouraged, with a 1920s flair. Arrive with friends or meet fellow players during the game.

The 15th annual Face the Forest Obstacle Course Run at Poplar Forest is a 3.1-mile challenge that winds through the grounds of Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest, featuring a variety of obstacles and a bit of mud. The event welcomes families and teams of all ages, and entry fees support children’s educational programming at Poplar Forest. Registration is tiered, with an early rate of $45 per person, a $50 rate after the early deadline, and $60 for late and day-of sign-ups. The opening of St. Paul's Parsons' pipe organ features Dr. Damin Spritzer. Hailing from Washington and Oregon, she serves as Area Chair and Associate Professor of Organ at the University of Oklahoma and is Artist in Residence for Cathedral Arts at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Cathedral in Dallas. Her career includes performances in Israel, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Norway, France, England, Belgium, Iceland, and throughout the United States. She has released seven acclaimed recordings with Raven Recordings, made in France, the United States, and England, and she publishes an ongoing series of critical editions dedicated to the music of R. L. Becker. Dr. Spritzer earned her Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, her Master of Music in Organ Performance from the Eastman School of Music, and her Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of North Texas. Her work centers on championing lesser known and underrepresented composers, including women, and she is active with the Association of Anglican Musicians, the American Guild of Organists, and the Organ Historical Society. She is also a member of the Society of Women Organists and the American Theatre Organ Society, and a supporting member of Organ Media Foundation and Pipedreams. In North America, she is represented by Phillip Truckenbrod Concert Artists, LLC.
