Glass Blowing Experience

Explore the basics of glass blowing in a beginner friendly workshop focused on shaping three hand blown pieces, such as ornaments or watering globes. Participants receive all materials and step by step guidance throughout the process. Finished pieces may vary in size and shape, and some may not be perfectly round, making each one of a kind. Not every attempt is guaranteed to succeed, which is part of the learning experience. Aprons, safety glasses, and heat resistant gloves are provided for working with hot tools and glass cutting. For safety, wear closed toe shoes and a fitted long sleeve shirt, avoid short sleeves and ruffled or bell styles, and tie back long hair. All Creatures Great and Small Spring Choral Concert

Cantate Children’s and Youth Choir presents its annual spring program, All Creatures Great and Small, a celebration of the animal world sung by 40 voices ages 7 to 18 from Lynchburg and nearby communities. Now in its thirty third season, this nonprofit 501(c)(3) ensemble is devoted to healthy vocal training and meaningful musical experiences for young singers across Central Virginia. Inspired by John Rutter’s setting of All things bright and beautiful, the program explores creatures that swim, fly, and walk. It begins with 17th century rounds about deer, cranes, and a swan. Music of the water includes Schubert’s Die Forelle The Trout and Emma Lou Diemer’s Dolphins. Pieces that take to the air range from French children’s songs about hens to lively works about birds, bees, and crickets. On land, listeners will hear a setting of the spiritual All God’s Children Got Shoes and a Spanish song about a boy and his burro. The finale features Bill Staines’s All God’s Critters Got a Place in the Choir, arranged by Erica Phare-Bergh, with fiddle and piano. The choir is led by Music Director and Conductor Peggy Haas Howell, with Elizabeth Wilkinson as Assistant Director and Accompanist. Howell also serves as Organist and Choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lynchburg and as National Vice President and Councillor for Competitions and New Music for the American Guild of Organists, while Wilkinson is Organist and Choir Director at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church in Lynchburg. Since 2009 Howell has guided Cantate in collaborations with Opera on the James, the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra, the Charlottesville Ballet, the University of Lynchburg Choral Union, the Jefferson Choral Society, the University of Virginia Chamber Singers, and the Parish Choir of St. John’s. Her earlier leadership includes founding and directing the Jefferson Youth Chorale from 2003 to 2012 and directing the Chorale at Randolph Macon Woman’s College from 1996 to 2000. The Lone Bellow

The Lone Bellow steps into a new chapter with What A Time To Be Alive, their sixth album, uniting the trio’s signature harmonies with fresh sounds shaped alongside their full touring band. Founders Zach Williams, Brian Elmquist, and Kanene Pipkin join drummer Julian Dorio and multi-instrumentalist Tyler Geertsma, channeling the spark of their stage presence into songs that glow with honesty, warmth, and connection. Tracked live in Muscle Shoals, AL following a writing retreat in a converted Kentucky firehouse, the record spans celebration and reckoning, touching on friendship, loss, love, and resilience. It moves from the grit of "After The Rain" to the closing title track, weaving folk, rock, and gospel into lush arrangements and heartfelt storytelling. Early recordings were stolen, yet the strong support from fans affirmed the communal nature of the music, a spirit that runs through anthems like "Common Folk" and "I’m Here For You" as well as intimate reflections such as "You Were Leaving" and "Night Goes Black." Since their 2013 debut, the band has appeared on The Tonight Show, Austin City Limits, and The Late Show, climbed the Americana charts, and headlined renowned stages including Carnegie Hall and the Ryman Auditorium. With this release, they reaffirm a commitment to connection in song, on stage, and around the table.

The Day is Past and Gone

Playwright Teresa Harris revives her original stage piece at Jefferson’s plantation with two encore presentations.
