Pocahontas State ParkTeen Pour Paint Coasters
Explore a playful art technique in a hands-on session focused on pour painting. Participants will blend acrylics with a pouring medium and use that mix to create swirling, abstract patterns on coaster blanks. Guidance covers the essentials from mixing to pouring, with plenty of freedom to experiment, so it suits beginners as well as anyone eager to try something different. Everyone leaves with a set of personalized coasters that are both useful and gift-worthy.
Prince George County LibraryOpen Studio at PAAL
Open Studio at PAAL offers an easygoing creative session for artists at any stage to make work, share insights, and spark new ideas. Tables and easels are available, along with a few simple activities to help kick things off. Bring something you are working on or revive a project that has been on pause, or arrive empty handed to brainstorm, get advice, and enjoy the momentum that comes from creating alongside others. The focus is conversation, experimentation, and community. It is free, happens monthly on the last Tuesday, and follows a drop in format with no RSVP needed.
Petersburg Area Art League6-Week Intermediate Carolina Shag Dance Class Series
This six-week intermediate Carolina Shag series at the Optimist Club of Colonial Heights focuses on moving beyond memorized steps and into a confident, musical flow rooted in the dance’s classic style. Instruction centers on partner communication as a clear, nonverbal exchange where the lead offers direction and the follow responds with equal intention, building an intuitive connection that keeps both roles actively engaged. Technique work targets a smooth, grounded glide with a stable upper body, balanced stretch and compression for responsive tension, and refined control along the slot. To manage the mental demands of advanced material, the course follows a repeating rhythm of two weeks dedicated to new sequences followed by a week devoted to review and integration. The aim is to shift mechanics into muscle memory so attention can rest on the music and the partnership. This series is intended for dancers who already command Shag fundamentals and want a deeper, more disciplined approach.
