Little Sprouts Garden Day

At Jungle Jamz Play Cafe, children can get their hands in the dirt during an interactive gardening activity available with a play session. Participants fill a pot with soil, plant seeds or a small starter, and bring home a living project to care for. Materials such as the pot, soil, and seeds or plant are provided. Cost is $5 in addition to regular play admission. It blends play and learning with a touch of mess, and there is time for caregivers to relax and socialize. Space is limited, so advance reservation of a play session is recommended.

Bee Hive Wind Chimes

Create a unique fused glass wind chime with a bee and hive theme. Experienced instructors will guide you through the creative process, offering tips and techniques. All skill levels are welcome, and all materials are provided. This class is for ages 13 and up. The finished project includes a 6" glass panel/hive and three (3) 2"-3" glass bees.

The Woman’s Club of Windsor Bunco Bonanza

The Woman’s Club of Windsor hosts its first Bunco Bonanza at the Windsor Ruritan Club. Registration is 25 dollars and can be completed online. Light refreshments will be available, including water, finger foods, and baked treats. Awards recognize the most buncos, most mini buncos, most wins, and even most losses. All experience levels are welcome. Capacity is limited, so early registration is recommended.

This sales schedule spans Friday through Thursday with daily prices that drop as the week progresses. On Friday, the interior is closed for restocking and only pallet sales are available. Saturday offers a flat 10 dollars per item. Sunday is closed. Monday features a 5 dollar per item special. Tuesday is 4 dollars per item. Wednesday goes to 2 dollars each. Thursday concludes with items priced at 1 dollar each.

Lone Star Lakes Pollinator Gardens | Open Garden Days

Explore the pollinator gardens at Lone Star Lakes Park during Open Garden Days, hosted by VCE Master Gardeners who plant, maintain, and teach in the park each Friday. These drop-in days are scheduled for the first Friday of the month during the growing season. Watch for an old white truck with a sign in the back to find them at one of the eleven garden areas. Meet the team, stroll through the beds, help pull a weed if you like, and learn what is being grown and the purpose behind each planting. Plans may change with weather, so dates are subject to adjustment. If a session is canceled, or you miss one, stop by whenever you see the group at work and they will be happy to answer questions and share more about the plants around you. A neighborhood yard market at Somerton Friends Meeting features yard sale items, crafts, baked goods, and more. Sellers have the option to rent a table or bring their own.

Clean the Bay Day

Clean the Bay Day brings the community together in Suffolk to protect the Chesapeake Bay through a coordinated cleanup. Volunteers will focus on litter removal at Constant’s Wharf Park & Marina and Sleepy Hole Park, working on land and from the water. Those with kayaks or canoes can help collect debris along the shoreline and in nearby waterways. Supplies are provided, including grabbers, gloves, safety vests, and bags, so participants can concentrate on making an impact. The effort supports a vital regional resource, and with more than 11,000 miles of shoreline across the bay, every volunteer helps keep local waterways clean and the community looking its best. Art Clay Silver Workshop: Create a Sterling Silver Cuff Bracelet

Discover Art Clay Silver in a hands-on class that guides you from first sketch to finished piece. Work with a soft, moldable precious metal clay that fires into solid .999 fine silver, then shape, texture, and refine your design into a sterling silver cuff bracelet you made yourself. Beginners are welcome, and no prior jewelry experience is needed. Instruction covers the essentials of working with precious metal clay, the safe use of professional tools and studio equipment, and finishing techniques so your bracelet is ready to wear by the end of the session. All materials, tools, and equipment are provided, along with a selection of findings to complete your piece. Additional silver clay will be available for purchase if you wish to keep creating. The class is led by Cynthia Quesenberry, who emphasizes both technique and creative exploration, and it is open to ages 14 and up.

Children's Festival

Celebrate the first Suffolk Children’s Festival, a free, family-focused day designed for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary kids to explore, play, learn, and connect. Families can visit local early childhood vendors, enjoy live entertainment, dive into hands-on activities, meet favorite characters, and take part in raffle drawings held throughout the event. Featured highlights include appearances by Eric Litwin, author of the original Pete the Cat books, a magic show with Nomo the Magician, Paint & Sippy Cup sessions with artist Kim Ellis that require registration, music from the Red Stapler Duo, a puppet performance by Puppets by Richard, and a showcase from Triple T Gymnastics. All-day fun at Festival Park includes vendor bingo, a visit with Sheldon the Peanut, character meet and greets with Bluey and Sonic, The Tot Spot for infant and toddler activities, a touch a truck experience with Suffolk Fire and Rescue, art projects for children up to age 8, opportunities for physicals and immunizations with registration, and face painting with time-slot registration. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome for relaxing between activities. The festival is presented in partnership with the Early Childhood Development Commission, Suffolk Parks and Recreation, and Suffolk Public Library, with support from TowneBank, Sentara, and Suffolk Tourism.

Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters' First 100 Years

Underground Performing Arts Collective, in partnership with The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, presents Emily Mann’s play Having Our Say: The Delany Sisters’ First 100 Years in the Taylor Ballroom. Onstage, sisters Sadie Delany, age 103, portrayed by Carla Monique, and Bessie Delany, age 101, portrayed by Jennifer Kelly-Cooper, prepare a birthday meal for their father while sharing a century of lived history with humor, candor, and vivid recollection. Drawn from their experiences as trailblazing African American professionals, their memories illuminate not only African American and women’s history but a broader shared story. The production is directed by J. Travis Cooper. General admission is $33 and includes tea party fare and a selection of teas. Guests are encouraged to bring a favorite teacup and saucer. Open to all ages.

Suffolk Middle School OTK Championships

This track and field event is for boys and girls teams. Each team can have up to 40 students. All track meets will begin, with field events starting and running events following. One faculty representative from each school must be present, and teams will enter athletes through Milestat. Athletes can participate in a maximum of four events. There are also competition limits per school. The long jump, shot put, and high jump will run as a dual meet format. Scoring will be applied for all events. To be eligible for the city meet, a student must participate in at least one dual meet.

May the Fourth Be With You: Galactic Run & Trivia

Celebrate a galaxy far, far away with NBS Express Run Club and Western Tidewater Force at Nansemond Brewing Station. The festivities include a galactic fun run where participants collect four cards along the route, and the highest score claims the bounty. Star Wars attire is encouraged, and a costume check keeps the theme front and center. Before trivia begins, a crowd-applause costume showdown crowns a winner who receives a $25 Starbucks gift card. Driver at Seaboard Coastline Trail Pollinator Garden | Open Garden Days

Explore the pollinator garden along the Seaboard Coastline Trail in Driver and meet the Virginia Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners who care for the beds and share gardening knowledge with trail users. Open Garden Days take place on select Mondays during the growing season, and volunteers are typically on site for about an hour. Visitors can walk through the garden, help with light weeding, and learn about the plants and the reasons they are grown there. Plans may change in bad weather. If a session is canceled or you miss a scheduled day, feel free to stop when volunteers are working in the garden, as they are glad to answer questions and talk about what is growing.

Canva Made Simple: Working with Templates

Learn the essentials of Canva, the free online design platform, in a hands-on session centered on using and customizing templates. Explore ways to tailor ready-made layouts, add eye-catching graphics, and incorporate Canva’s QR code tools to enhance projects for work or personal use. This season focuses on practical techniques for adapting templates to fit your needs. The program takes place at North Suffolk Public Library. Registration is required and the class is intended for adults. Bringing a laptop is encouraged, though a small number will be available in limited quantity on a first come basis. Basic computer skills are recommended to get the most from the experience.

Yoga at Sojourn Fermentory

The Zerbini Family Circus brings its big top to Courtland for a family-friendly show at the Southampton County Fair. Enjoy thrilling aerial acts, playful clowns, bold acrobats and skilled jugglers, along with performing ponies and camels. Concessions will be available, and both cash and credit are accepted. Tickets are available online until shortly before showtime, with a limited number offered at the door.

Suffolk VCE Master Gardener Information Session and Meet some Volunteers

People who enjoy gardening, collaborating with others, and serving neighbors can explore the path to becoming a Suffolk VCE Master Gardener at this information session. The program overview will cover what the volunteer role involves, expectations for service, and opportunities to get questions answered while speaking with current volunteers. The upcoming training is designed for busy schedules with roughly three to five in-person commitments each month, regular sessions at VCE, and a monthly hands-on field experience or lab, with breaks around major holidays. The total training cost is $195, which includes an $82 Suffolk course fee, a $100 state program fee, and a $13 state background screening fee, and limited scholarship assistance may be available. If attending in person is not possible, a portion of the session will be recorded for later viewing by Zoom, with details shared in a separate listing. Help Desk Open Office Hours - Ask a Master Gardener!

Master Gardener Volunteers host monthly open office hours where you can get answers to gardening questions without an appointment. They offer research-based guidance on issues ranging from invasive plants and insects to trees, shrubs, vegetables, flowers, soils, native plants, plant diseases, water runoff, wildlife conflicts, and integrated pest management. If you have samples, bring plant or insect material in a sealed zipper bag, or provide clear photos for review.

2026 Paws for the Arts

Paws for the Arts at Cedar Point Club offers a meaningful evening in support of animals. As the organization’s biggest annual fundraiser, the event plays a critical role in sustaining ongoing work by helping provide food, safe shelter, and medical care to homeless animals throughout the year. Beyond the Call Opening Reception

The Suffolk Art Gallery and Suffolk Art League present their annual spring collaboration celebrating the creative voices of military service members, their dependents, and their families. In partnership with the USO, this showcase highlights the breadth of talent within the military community and features a dedicated gallery display by featured artist Gus Gusentine. Adult Recess - Capture the Flag

Part of Suffolk Parks & Recreation’s new Adult Recess series, this event at Bennetts Creek Park highlights capture the flag and an evening ride around the park in recognition of National Bike Month. All ages may attend, while game participation is limited to adults 18 and older. A limited number of bicycles will be available on a first come, first served basis, and personal bikes are welcome. Additional yard games, including cornhole, giant Connect Four, and Gaga Ball, will be available throughout the event. Concessions will be sold, and alcohol will be available for those 21 and over with valid ID. Concepts such as composition, line, and texture are woven into the process, and everyone completes two or more original prints to take home. Template designs are available, and personal sketches or ideas are welcome. Materials are supplied. Sharp tools are used, so care and attention are part of the experience. Open to ages 16 and up. Instruction is led by artist Joelle Douthit, who works across printmaking, oil, and watercolor. Her practice draws from nature and subtle details, and her teaching background brings clarity and enthusiasm to the studio.

Tire Rack Street Survival - Franklin VA

This teen driving school delivers practical, real-world training to help new drivers understand vehicle dynamics, make sound decisions, react faster, and better anticipate the behavior of others on the road. Students use their own cars and work closely with coaches to build confidence and control. It is a full-day program that blends classroom learning with extensive behind-the-wheel time. Across three classroom segments totaling about two hours, students cover proper seating and hand position, mirror setup, how a tire’s contact patch works, the principles of weight transfer, using long-range vision, and overall situational awareness. Instructors also address distractions such as music, phones, and carrying multiple passengers. On course, students practice skid recovery on a wet surface, quick lane changes for hazard avoidance, hard braking with ABS, and a slalom to feel and manage weight transfer. When conditions allow, additional drills include recovering after dropping two wheels off the pavement and understanding the risks of following too closely. Some locations demonstrate large truck blind spots by placing participants in a semi-truck cab to reveal how many nearby cars are hidden from view, and an airbag deployment demo may be used to reinforce safe hand placement on the wheel. Parents are encouraged to stay for the entire program, sit in on the classroom portions, and speak with instructors, who are available throughout the day to answer questions. Lunch is provided for students, parents, and volunteers, along with educational demonstrations during the break. The course fee is $175.

The Cake Social

Open to both cake bakers and cake enthusiasts, this Cake Social welcomes everyone from business owners and hobbyists to family go-to bakers and those who simply love to enjoy a slice. Tickets are required and are limited on a first come, first served basis. For each ticket purchased, bring one full-size cake, which may be homemade or store-bought, and if baked at home please place it on a disposable cake board. List all ingredients and allergens clearly so they can be displayed with your cake when you arrive. Each participant will receive an empty cake box to fill with slices from the full assortment available. Plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to set up your cake. The experience lasts about one and a half hours and blends light networking and socializing with plenty of cake.

Tee One Up Golf for CHKD

Held at Riverfront Golf Club, this golf tournament raises funds for CHKD. The King's Daughters bring golfers together for a day of fresh air and sunshine in support of kids who need it. Player spots have sold out, and Cart and Driving Range sponsorships are still available. Funds raised will benefit CHKD.

Piney Grove Preserve

Search for Red-cockaded Woodpeckers in one of Virginia's few longleaf pine savannas at Piney Grove Preserve during a guided birding walk with RAS field trip leader Priscilla Erickson. The group will follow a gravel road and may cover up to five miles, depending on where the birds are found, with opportunities to observe other species along the way. Pack water, optics, and sun and insect protection. Carpooling is encouraged to reduce the trip's carbon footprint. RAS outings are open to all, membership is encouraged but not required, and unless otherwise noted there is no advance sign-up. Participants may stay for as long as they wish. The schedule is subject to change, and trips may be added, canceled, or modified.

The 2026 Suffolk Pride Festival

This Pride festival at Bennetts Creek Park brings vibrant color, lively sound, and a welcoming sense of community. Organizers are seeking volunteers, vendors, performers, and sponsors to take part.

Coffee Concert: Alexandre Da Costa, violin; Tommy Mesa, cello; Olga Kern, piano

Towne University in Suffolk hosts a performance presented by Virginia Arts Festival that brings together violinist Alexandre Da Costa, cellist Thomas “Tommy” Mesa, and pianist Olga Kern. “When I play, my instrument becomes the extension of my soul,” says Da Costa, the famed Canadian artist renowned for his passionate violin and for his roles as Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique du Québec and Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Sinaloa de las Artes. He appears with Cuban-American cellist Thomas “Tommy” Mesa, whose dazzling performance style is described as “a masterclass in virtuosic playing” (Tucson.com). Passion and fire provide the perfect complement to the thrilling performance style of pianist Olga Kern.

The 2nd Annual Fair Jam brings food, cold drinks, and live music to the Southampton County Fairgrounds while raising funds for the upcoming 45th Annual Franklin-Southampton County Fair. Entertainment features Bandit, Silver Street Band, and Love Tribe. Admission includes both food and beverages. Tickets are $40 in advance or $50 at the gate. Lawn chairs are welcome.
