Chicago Stepping & Detroit Ballroom Partner Dance Class (Beginner Friendly!)

Explore two classic partner dances in a welcoming class for beginners taught by Wesley Wiggins of Heart & Soul Steppers and Charles Walker of Soul 2 Sole Urban Ballroom. Instruction covers Chicago Stepping and Detroit Ballroom with an approachable introduction set to R&B and Soul music. No prior experience or partner is needed, and newcomers may start at any time. The class develops skills from the basics to help you feel confident on the dance floor. It takes place at Susan’s Kitchenette in the banquet hall to the right of the entrance. Participants will learn the International West Coast Swing Rally routine in a progressive series that leads up to September performances, which are entirely optional. A partner is not required, and performing is not mandatory. The cost is $200 for the complete 15-week series, which includes a $25 discount, or $15 per class. Join a small-group sensory storytime made for children to explore different sensory experiences through stories, music, and hands-on activities. It’s geared toward kids with specialized sensory processing needs, and caregivers are asked to help their child safely explore the materials. This program is for ages 3 to 7, and registration is required. Since it starts before regular library hours, a staff member will let you into the building between 9:20 and 9:30 AM, and late arrivals won’t be admitted after that time.

Elevation 27 hosts An Evening With The Ultimate Doors, a tribute to The Doors. Formed to preserve the band’s music and performance style, The Ultimate Doors focuses on delivering an authentic experience for seasoned followers and new listeners. The event is open to all ages. General Admission is $25 in advance or $30 on the day of the show and is standing room only. Reserved Dining is $35 and includes admission at dining tables and booths; guests may be seated with others, and table and booth tickets require a minimum food purchase of $10 per person. Elevated Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. Tickets are available exclusively through Ticketmaster or in person at the Elevation 27 box office during show hours. Join in an open-ended building activity where kids can use imagination to create projects with stackable bricks and other materials. This event is for grades Pre-K through 5, and no registration is required.

Nature Academy: Bear Aware

Join the Nature Academy for a Bear Aware session where you’ll learn about black bear biology, play a game, and then make your own bear paws to take home. This outdoor class is for kids ages 5 through 12 at the Chesapeake Arboretum. Cost is $10 per child.

Set on the sand at 32nd Street, the Virginia Beach Funk Fest Beach Party returns as one of the East Coast’s largest outdoor music celebrations, delivering two days of live performances and memories. The lineup features D-Train, Big Daddy Kane, and Midnight Star, along with Trouble Funk featuring Big Tony, 803 Fresh, and Cameo. General admission is free, though capacity is limited and entry is first come, first served. For a closer and more comfortable experience, a ticketed Preferred Viewing section is available as a two-day pass that provides a nearer viewing area where patrons bring their own beach chairs, dedicated portable restrooms, and a cash bar, with admission to this section guaranteed. Guests may bring beach chairs of any kind, a beach blanket or towel, a small cooler, and food and drink. Outside alcohol, glass containers, guns or weapons, bicycles, pets except certified service animals, professional camera or video equipment, and umbrellas or tents during the show are not permitted.

The Wandering Makers bring their third annual Fall Fest to Mount Trashmore Park, expanding the celebration to two full days. After two years that packed the park and rallied support for local businesses, this community favorite returns with an even bigger mix of activities and entertainment. Expect a bustling marketplace of local makers, artists, and small businesses, an impressive lineup of food trucks, and live music running throughout both days. The festival is designed as a full experience where you can browse, play, dance, and enjoy the atmosphere from start to finish. 52nd Annual Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend

At the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, the Neptune Festival marks its 52nd year with a celebration of beach life that attracts crowds in the hundreds of thousands. Free live music fills two stages with more than twenty performances by local favorites and nationally known artists. Along the boardwalk, more than two hundred artisans present handmade creations at a broad art and craft show, and Neptune’s International Sandsculpting Championship features twenty two remarkable works shaped by internationally renowned sculptors. Throughout the weekend, activities include Neptune’s 8k Race, Learn from the Pros sand clinics offered at no charge, Healthy Haven with free beach yoga and fitness sessions, Poseidon’s Playground family fun zone that is free to enjoy, Touch-A-Truck with no admission cost, and Dock Dogs with free viewing. The Pink Ride

The 17th Annual Pink Ride returns to Elevation 27 for a community-focused day of motorcycles, live music, and food in support of neighbors facing breast cancer. The lineup features Celeste Kellogg, Wonderland, and Krunch, and admission includes both the concert and a meal. Riders, passengers, walkups, and non-riders all pay $40.
