Helping Hands

Helping Hands: Quilts for the Community brings people together in the shop’s lower level to create quilts that will be donated to local organizations. There is plenty to tackle, including preparing backings, sewing bindings, and pitching in wherever help is needed. All experience levels are welcome. Bring a sewing machine if you prefer, or lend a hand with tasks that do not require one. Tables, irons, and cutting mats are available, and assistance is offered to carry machines downstairs. Stay for a while or simply stop in to see the progress, bring a lunch or pick something up nearby, and spend time stitching for a good cause. For questions, email staff@yankeepridequilts.com.

April- Beginning Swing

Terry and Cate lead a welcoming introduction to swing dancing that covers the essentials. New dancers, and those with just a little experience, will work on six count basics, comfortable lead and follow skills, and clear partner communication on the floor. No partner is needed. Each month brings a fresh set of beginner moves in this continuing series, so returning students can keep building confidence and technique. The class fee includes entry to a practice dance immediately after class, perfect for trying out new material. This is a monthlong series, so please plan to attend the full set of sessions. Arrive a bit early to allow time for parking and changing shoes. Bring clean, non-marking footwear to protect the floor. Parking is limited, so expect to use nearby street parking and take a short walk to the hall.

April- Lindy 1

Explore the heart of Lindy Hop in a focused series built around two cornerstone moves, the Swing Out and the Circle. Jessie and Eric will guide dancers through technique, rhythm, and the joyful energy behind these classics. Strengthen your 8 count footwork and refine the connection, momentum, and flow that make swing outs feel smooth and well connected. This series is designed to be taken more than once, with each round offering fresh insights and deeper refinement. Even experienced Lindy Hoppers can use it to refresh fundamentals and reconnect with the dance’s roots. Prerequisite: 2 to 5 months of beginning swing or instructor approval. Participants should be comfortable with triple steps, basic partner connection, and familiar moves such as the underarm pass or tuck turn. If you are unsure whether it is a fit, speak with a Vermont Swings instructor. Classes meet on Tuesdays as a month long series, and participants are encouraged to attend the whole month. The class fee includes free admission to a practice dance immediately after class. Plan to arrive a little early to allow time for parking and changing shoes. Please bring clean shoes that will not track in grit or leave black heel marks. Parking is limited, so consider using nearby street parking and walking to the venue.

Learn to Skate — April Sessions

Skaters from Green Mountain Roller Derby present an introductory roller skating program at Champlain Valley Exposition. New skaters and those returning to the rink can build foundational skills in a supportive setting with optional group instruction, open practice time, and opportunities for one-on-one coaching from GMRD trainers. The focus is on quad skating techniques, though inline skates are welcome. Loaner equipment is available, and participants should bring a mouthguard. The program welcomes adults of all genders, ages 18 and up. Sessions are planned on a weekly basis as space allows with at least two practices offered each month, and dates are announced in advance. Pricing is $20 per month for months with two or more sessions.
