Ofelia later pursues intentional weight loss that spirals into disordered eating until a frightening treadmill mishap prompts a reset. She leaves the family home, while their mother Lyla, often at a loss emotionally, remains behind. Norma finds refuge in the campus pool, then a troubling incident pushes her inward. The sisters keep their experiences private, the distance between them grows, and they move into careers apart, until a gentle reconnection leads to shared truths and to Ofelia’s promise to help seek justice for what Norma endured. Donna Miscolta is the author of four works of fiction, including Ofelia and Norma from Regal House Publishing. Jane Wong is the author of the memoir Meet Me Tonight in Atlantic City and the poetry collections How to Not Be Afraid of Everything and Overpour. A Kundiman fellow and Pushcart Prize recipient, she has held fellowships and residencies with the U.S. Fulbright Program, Harvard’s Woodberry Poetry Room, Artist Trust, Hedgebrook, UCross, Loghaven, and the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund. Her interdisciplinary installations and performances have appeared at the Frye Art Museum, Richmond Art Gallery, and the Asian Art Museum. She grew up in a take-out restaurant on the Jersey shore and is an Associate Professor at Western Washington University.

This social tradition grew from story and ritual dances and was later shaped by influences from the French court during the reign of James V through Mary of Guise. It thrived into the 19th century, then gave way to the waltz and quadrille, and saw a strong revival in the 20th century with the founding of the Scottish Country Dance Society in 1923 and its 1951 royal charter as the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. The repertoire continues to expand with new dances and tunes each year. This multi level session includes step practice and teaching of dances. The plan is 45 minutes centered on beginners, followed by 30 minutes of social dancing open to everyone, and a concluding 45 minutes for those with more experience. Instruction follows a step by step approach that reviews and builds on previously introduced skills. Absolute beginners are welcome. No partner is required and no special attire is needed. Comfortable clothing works well. Soft soled shoes, such as ballet or jazz styles, can make it easier to move and to point the toes, but they are optional. The class features social dancing to traditional music in teams of six or eight, blending energy and grace with a touch of courtly style, and it suits a wide range of ages and experience.

Trombonist and composer Conner Eisenmenger is a new face on the Seattle music scene. A Louisville, Kentucky native, he received the ASCAP Foundation Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award for “Choice Paralysis” in 2022 and earned a master of music degree from the University of North Texas, where he played in the One O’clock Lab Band. His performance work includes the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, and Super Mario Super Big Band, along with artists such as Louis Prima Jr., Tito Puente Jr., and Beck. The lineup includes Eisenmenger on trombone, with additional performers to be announced.

This production is a tribute to Canadian author, actor, and playwright Ann-Marie MacDonald. Her exuberant comedy reimagines Shakespeare’s Othello and Romeo and Juliet through the journey of Constance Ledbelly, a beleaguered academic who deciphers a neglected manuscript and finds herself inside the worlds of both tragedies. As she tries to change Desdemona’s and Juliet’s fates, Constance encounters comedy, near-tragedy, disguises, sword-fighting, and Renaissance-style dancing while searching for her own identity. The play brings a feminist perspective to Shakespeare’s stories, with women who actively shape the action.
