40K: Harvester of Souls 2 day Team Narrative Event

    The Gamer's Haven, 1403 W Broadway Ave, Spokane · verified Oct 11
    See details

Celebrate the 16th Annual Harvester of Souls with a two-day TEAM narrative map campaign where fifty commanders are split at the start into Order and Disorder. Any faction can serve either side, and every decision contributes to a shared war effort that unfolds across a living campaign map on the stage screen. The map features 25 territories that match the event’s tables, and each battlefield offers its own terrain, mission, and objectives, so no two games look or play the same. Territory control matters beyond a single match. Capturing and holding a zone grants strategic benefits to connected areas, so each win can empower allied forces nearby. At the end of every round, control of territories shifts on the map before the next clashes begin. Before each round, teams have dedicated time to plan. Every army is represented by a face-down card on the campaign map, assignments are revealed all at once, and only then do players learn their opponents. Success comes from reading the enemy’s intentions, leaning into table-specific terrain and missions, securing critical objectives, and matching the right army to the right battlefield. Coordinated teamwork wins this war more reliably than raw force alone. Armies are set at 2000 points with 3 Disposition points, fully painted forces are required, Legends units are allowed, and team pairings plus games run in extended blocks designed for deep, strategic play. The first day features three rounds with a lunch break and Player’s Choice voting, followed by a second day with two more rounds, another lunch with voting, and an awards presentation. Battle Points do not factor here, only win versus loss, and there is no Best General. W/L serves as the tie breaker for the top team titles. Players also vote for favorite games and favorite armies from both sides. Trophies include Champion of Order, Artisan of Order, and Honor of Order for Team Order, and Harbinger of Disorder, Artisan of Order, and Honor of Order for Team Disorder. More details may be added as the event approaches.

A community book discussion will take place in the Library Community Room at the Cheney Library, focusing on the November selection, Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk by Kathleen Rooney. All community members are welcome and no sign up is needed. Inspired by Margaret Fishback, a 1930s poet and Macy’s advertising standout, the novel follows octogenarian Lillian as she strolls through New York City on the final night of 1984, prompting vivid memories and chance encounters. Her path leads to a familiar neighborhood bar with a newly installed television, a favorite New Year’s Eve restaurant poised to change owners, Delmonico’s where her marriage ended, and a transforming lower Manhattan. Along the way she exchanges quips about last lines with a Vietnam veteran, detours to a hospital to comfort a first-time mother in labor, and attends a party where younger artists both critique and celebrate her, capped by a wry run-in with three muggers. Through these moments she reflects on a renowned advertising career, her beloved family, and a difficult period of illness, creating a portrait that honors city life and the ties that connect past and future.
