Polite Paws

Polite Paws is a group class at Sage Canines for dogs six months and older that focuses on teamwork between people and their dogs. It emphasizes cooperation, clear understanding, and attentive listening for both ends of the leash. The curriculum is well suited for dogs that are high energy, pull on leash, bark at other dogs, jump on people, rush out the door, have trouble staying when asked, or simply need practice in a more distracting environment. Participants learn how to help their dogs respond reliably to obedience cues, develop better manners on and off leash, come when called, and gain confidence in new places, while handlers build confidence too. Lessons include engaging games that make training enjoyable and strengthen the bond between dog and human. This outdoor course runs for six weeks, is limited to five students, and costs $240. An $85 non-refundable deposit is required before the first session, with the remaining balance due on the first day, and the course is non-refundable. Since classes are held outside, plan to dress appropriately. Proof of all required vaccinations is needed, and a titer test is accepted as an alternative.

Healing Breathwork & Soundbath with Gisela Mondays

Explore a guided breathwork and sound experience with Gisela Birnschein that encourages deep somatic release, a calmer nervous system, and expanded awareness. The session begins with gentle movement to open energy channels and relax the body. You will then rest on your back with blankets, bolsters, and an eye pillow while moving through a four-part breathing sequence that progresses from an introduction into release, then receiving, and finally trance. Sustained, deep breathing can lead to a highly oxygenated, altered state of awareness in which the mind softens and the body can process emotions, memories, trauma, and unconscious patterns in a supportive setting. The experience closes with a brief soundbath that uses soothing tones to settle the nervous system, deepen the process, and encourage balance. This practice may ease stored stress and tension, reduce anxiety, support trauma processing in the body, loosen limiting patterns, increase oxygen and vitality, sharpen clarity and intuition, promote deep relaxation and better sleep, open emotional awareness, expand spiritual connection, and restore equilibrium through sound. Please bring a yoga mat or something comfortable to lie on, a blanket and pillow, a water bottle, and an optional journal. An open mind and willing heart are welcome. The cost is $25, or $120 for a six-session series. Registration is available on Eventbrite or via Venmo at @Wahe-Kaur, with your name and email sent by text to 626-274-4953. For questions, text the same number.

Swing Dance Every Wednesday!

Enjoy a weekly swing dance evening at the Valiant Ballroom in downtown Vancouver, Washington, with classes for both beginners and intermediate dancers followed by a social dance. The beginner track rotates through 6-count Lindy Hop fundamentals with basic footwork, simple turns, and rhythm, then partnered Charleston with variations and common entries and exits, then 8-count Lindy Hop basics, and an introduction to swing-outs that highlights footwork, rhythm, and body mechanics. When there is a fifth week, the focus shifts to the Shim Sham line dance and its foundational steps. Intermediate lessons follow a two-month cycle. In the first month, the emphasis progresses from closed connection with pulse and rock steps, to techniques for prepping and rotating turns while managing speed and momentum, to strategies for faster tempos, then refined swing-outs, with fancy footwork on any fifth week. In the second month, the spotlight moves to open connection with push-pull and lateral engagement, momentum and directional changes, distinguishing 6-count from 8-count patterns, and another round of refined swing-outs, with fancy footwork again on a fifth week. Lesson depth adapts to those in attendance, requests are welcomed at the end of class, and feedback on topics is encouraged. Admission is $10 per lesson and includes the social dance. The social on its own is $5, and members receive both the lesson and social at no cost.

The Bridges of Madison County

The story follows Francesca Johnson, an Italian immigrant who married an American soldier to escape a war-ravaged homeland, as she anticipates a rare four days of solitude on her Iowa farm while her family heads to the 1965 State Fair. When Robert Kincaid, a National Geographic photographer, arrives seeking directions, their brief time together sets in motion a connection that could reshape her life. Mosaic Crochet Class

Learn mosaic crochet at Hook and Needle by making a mug rug that appears intricate yet uses straightforward two-color techniques. The class introduces reading mosaic charts, working drop-down double crochets, and carrying two colors without cutting yarn. The project is small enough to finish during the session and builds confidence for larger colorwork pieces later. This class is designed for crocheters who are comfortable with basic stitches, and no prior colorwork experience is required. Please bring two contrasting yarns in either worsted weight with a 4.5 mm hook or DK weight with a 3.5 mm hook. Using a slightly smaller hook can help keep stitches neat if you are unsure about sizing. Scissors and a tapestry needle are also needed. A pattern will be provided. Instruction is led by Becka, founder of Radiant Beans, who has spent more than 19 years refining her crochet practice and has taught multiple classes in Portland, Oregon, Vancouver, Washington, and at Flock Fiber Fest over the last four years. She focuses on helping students feel comfortable at any point in their fiber journey and making learning engaging. Based in Vancouver, Washington, she balances Radiant Beans with gardening, baking bread, and caring for her two sons. Cancellations made more than 48 hours before class are eligible for a full refund. After 48 hours, store credit is available, and within 24 hours cancellations are non-refundable. If illness prevents attendance and notice is given before class begins, store credit may be offered at the organizer’s discretion. Due to limited seating and instructor scheduling, no-shows are not eligible for refunds or credit. Classes may be cancelled or rescheduled for low attendance, with the option of a refund or a transfer to the rescheduled session.

Swing Dance Every Wednesday!

A weekly swing dance night at the Valiant Ballroom in Downtown Vancouver, Washington offers both beginner and intermediate lessons followed by social dancing. The curriculum rotates every other month so dancers can build skills step by step. For beginners, each month cycles through core topics. The first Wednesday focuses on 6-count Lindy Hop basics with foundational footwork, simple turns, and rhythm. The second highlights partnered Charleston with essential steps, variations, and ways to enter and exit the pattern. The third returns to fundamentals with 8-count Lindy Hop basics. The fourth introduces swing-outs with attention to footwork, timing, and body mechanics. When a fifth Wednesday occurs, the session explores the Shim Sham line dance with a focus on footwork, rhythm, and mechanics. The intermediate track alternates content across two monthly rotations. In the first rotation, dancers work on closed connection with pulse and rock steps, turn technique including preparation, rotation, and moving turns with speed and momentum, strategies for faster dancing, refinement and variations on swing-outs, and fancy footwork when there is a fifth week. In the second rotation, the emphasis shifts to open connection with push pull and lateral connection while exploring limits, using momentum and direction in both lateral and rotational movement, distinguishing between 6-count and 8-count, another round of swing-out refinements and variations, and fancy footwork on a fifth week. The amount of material covered adapts to the experience level of the group. Requests are welcome at the end of the lesson, and feedback on lesson content is invited. Pricing is $10 per lesson and includes the social dance, $5 for the social only, and members receive both the lesson and social at no cost.

Dressing up is optional but encouraged, whether that means lingerie, bold and sexy looks, gender-bending outfits, character costumes, or attire that matches a theme night. Most shows happen on the fourth Saturday, with a bonus Halloween performance in October. Childbirth Class

Designed for those planning a home birth, a birth center experience, or a low-intervention hospital birth, this class centers on building confidence, connection, and trust in the body’s innate wisdom. Participants explore how birth unfolds, from the physiology of labor to the role of hormones when safety, support, and freedom are protected. The experience recognizes birth as both transformative and deeply instinctive. Partners learn to offer steady, nurturing support through every stage, using touch, movement, breath, comfort techniques, advocacy, and intentional presence. The class also covers how to create a calm, supportive environment, make informed choices with confidence, and work with labor rather than against it. Practical preparation is woven with a holistic, heart-centered approach so families leave feeling informed, empowered, and connected as they prepare to welcome their baby. Ideal for anyone seeking a conscious, physiological, low-intervention path to birth. The fee is $135 and includes the expectant parent plus one support person.

Through guided conversation, useful practices, and interactive activities, participants explore how to set clear energy boundaries and stay centered without shutting down their natural awareness. It is intended for empaths, highly sensitive intuitives, and anyone deeply affected by the emotions or energy of others who wants practical tools to feel balanced, confident, and empowered in everyday life. No experience is needed.
