Free events in Whidbey Island, WA

Whidbey Island Rendezvous offers free admission, with vendors on site and vendor registration available by contacting Greg at 360-679-4657. Period dress is welcome and encouraged. Activities include a primitive archery trail, opportunities to learn to shoot a muzzleloader and to throw a tomahawk, tomahawk and knife throwing, rifle, pistol and trade gun shooting, exploration of a tin teepee and a modern camp, living history encampments, and live blacksmithing. The G.A. Ruxton Museum of the Fur Trade will be featured. Kids can take part in games and a candy cannon. Camping is available, and sign-up is available for the black powder shoot. Learn practical ways to lower the risk of diabetes in a free, two-hour class at WhidbeyHealth Medical Center. It is intended for individuals with fasting blood glucose between 100 and 125 or an A1C between 5.7 and 6.4, a range in which about one third of people develop diabetes within three years. The session covers everyday strategies such as healthy eating, the basics of carbohydrate counting, becoming more active, and setting SMART goals for prevention.
