Young Professionals Networking

A networking mixer for area professionals under 40 takes place before the second Wednesday performance of each production at Third Avenue PlayWorks in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The focus is on building connections, sharing resources, and supporting one another alongside a theater outing. There is no fee to attend, though capacity is limited and RSVPs are encouraged. Concessions are available for purchase by cash or card, including the nonalcoholic Luba Cosmo, Von Stiehl ciders and wine, Bridge Up Brewing beers, as well as coffee, hot cocoa, cider, tea, water, soda, and a range of snacks. Participants are encouraged to bring a business card to help create a shared member directory; if you do not have one, contact details can be added on provided slips. Each mixer includes a drawing from submitted business cards for two tickets to a TAP production. Attending the performance is optional, and those who choose to go can receive a special ticket discount by RSVPing for the mixer. This series aligns with the theater’s season, featuring titles such as Heroes by Gérald Sibleyras, adapted by Tom Stoppard, about three former soldiers who hatch a bold plan to break free from their retirement home; Moonlight and Magnolias by Ron Hutchinson, a fast-paced comedy about overhauling the script of Gone With the Wind under intense pressure; Red Herring by Michael Hollinger, a Cold War caper that blends romance, a murder investigation, and stolen secrets; The Call List by Brian James Polak, part of the World Premiere Wisconsin Festival, following Sam as a routine assignment to notify people of a client’s death spirals into an unexpectedly personal search; and It’s a Wonderful Life: Live in Door County, adapted by Neil Brookshire, presented as a 1940s-style radio show brought to life by an ensemble with live music and foley.

Root + Rise Sound Meditation

Settle into a grounding, gently uplifting sound meditation that nourishes steady growth from the ground up. Slow your pace and reconnect with your base, cultivating a felt sense of safety, stability, and self trust. It begins by easing the body and breath so you can arrive fully in the present. As stillness deepens, tension releases, the mind quiets, and your energetic roots strengthen. From that foundation, a restorative sound journey guides energy upward, inviting openness, expansion, and purposeful movement. The emphasis is on growth that is supported, gradual, and intentional... not rushed or forced. This experience suits anyone feeling called to evolve with care and clarity, without burnout. Ground first, then expand, and leave feeling rooted, steady, and ready to rise.

Lasers and Lightsabers: From Fusion Energy to Movie Magic

At Crossroads at Big Creek, a dynamic, visually rich presentation connects cutting edge laser science with the magic of filmmaking. Brian Lindow shares insights from years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and almost a decade at Skywalker Ranch, creating a program that welcomes attendees of all ages. The 45 to 60 minute program opens with a brief CBS 60 Minutes clip on the fusion ignition milestone at the National Ignition Facility, a project he helped advance. From there, he covers the laboratory’s history, its mission, and what day to day work looks like inside a major national research center. The spotlight then shifts to Skywalker Ranch with photos, stories, and firsthand perspectives from Brian’s time working with George Lucas and contributing to the filmmaking process. The session wraps with an interactive science showcase where participants can see and handle real items such as a giant salt crystal, laser targets, and aerogel, known as the world’s lightest manmade material. Attendees are invited to hold the aerogel and examine the materials up close at the end. Admission is free and open to the public.

Midsummer's Music | The French Chamber Music Mystique at Björklunden, Baileys Harbor

Now in its 36th summer season of chamber music, this intimate Door County concert explores the French Chamber Music Mystique. In 19th century Paris, opera dominated, and chamber music often survived in private circles supported by composers devoted to the genre. Among them were Louise Farrenc, the Paris Conservatory's first female professor, and Mélanie Bonis, who signed her scores as Mel to conceal her gender. The program features Bonis’s Suite en trio in E Minor, Op. 59 for flute, violin, and piano, Farrenc’s Trio in E Minor, Op. 45 for flute, cello, and piano, and Camille Saint-Saëns’s Trio No. 2 in E Minor, Op. 92 for violin, cello, and piano, inviting listeners into the intimate French chamber tradition that thrived outside the glare of grand opera.

Red Herring

At Third Avenue PlayWorks in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Michael Hollinger’s Red Herring blends romance, murder, and Cold War intrigue in a sharp-witted noir comedy. Set in 1952 Boston, the story follows a hardboiled homicide detective who must solve a killing, recover a stolen atomic secret, and prevent her fiancé, an FBI agent, from learning that his own father may be her newest suspect. As three couples cross paths, questions of love and loyalty collide with high-stakes secrets. The tone nods to Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett, with a playful streak of screwball mischief from the first clue. Directed by Karen Estrada, the production features Alicia Rice*, Ellie Duffey, Carolyn Hoerdemann*, Noah Simon* and more. The creative team includes Steve Barnes on sets, Karen Wallace on lighting, Kellyn Gagner on costumes, Josh Schmidt on sound, Kelsey Brennan York* as production stage manager, and Haley Anne Cranstoun as properties master. The run includes preview performances, an opening night, regular evening shows, and matinees, including a special performance with a post-show talkback. Community partnership is provided by Friends of Door County Libraries, with presenting support from Terry Fulwiler and Linda Berns.
