1 SPOT LEFT! June 24th - The Tap Yard Waukesha Chunky Knit Blanket Workshop

Settle in for a hands-on chunky knit blanket workshop at the Waukesha location, held outdoors in a park setting. Beginners and experienced knitters work entirely by hand, choosing a loose or tight style that affects size. The tightest approach yields around 45 by 42, and many blankets turn out larger. Every registration includes all materials to complete a blanket during the workshop, a complimentary first drink via a beer ticket, a carry bag for the finished piece, and emailed instructions with yarn shopping tips for future projects. Two pricing tiers are available. The $65 option lets participants select from the yarn colors brought to the workshop. The $85 option allows preselecting one or two colors in a premium, softer, thicker yarn that helps conceal imperfections and offers a wide range of shades, with color selection coordinated by email about four weeks in advance. Registration for the premium option closes four weeks prior if not sold out, and the standard option closes two weeks prior if not sold out. Pre-registration is required, seating is limited on a first come, first served basis, and ages 12 and up may work independently on a blanket. This gathering is dog friendly, with all dogs required to remain on six foot leashes. No carry-ins are allowed. Plan for an outdoor experience, with weather updates sent to the email used at sign-up. A vehicle entrance permit may be required when visiting Fox Brook Park, Minooka Park, or Menomonee Park. An annual pass is valid at all three Tap Yard beer gardens within Waukesha County Parks. Payment should be completed within five days of the visit to avoid a violation. Entry is not guaranteed if facilities are at capacity or during special events, and the entrance booth is not staffed, with passes handled online.

Talking with Monuments Series 3 - Vet-to-Community

This five week program brings veterans, military families, and community members together at memorial sites to reflect on service and the meaning of remembrance. Participants explore moral injury and consider how being remembered, overlooked, or erased in public memory can affect well being and the transition to civilian life. Many monuments present a single narrative, which can leave out important perspectives from those who served across different backgrounds. When those stories fade, adjusting after military life can become more difficult. The series includes visits to five memorials, each paired with a short history talk that spans conflicts from early tribal wars through Iraq and Afghanistan. At every stop, veteran facilitators share poetry and comics to enliven the space and expand the story of who has served. Conversations focus on service, memory, identity, and healing, with the aim of creating room for voices that have been left out and deepening understanding of veterans’ experiences.

Led by Michail Takach, a sixth-generation Wisconsinite, author, reporter and historian who serves as president of the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project, the experience also features additional walk leaders who share personal memories from earlier eras. Expect a docent-guided walk with testimonials from community elders. The route covers about 0.3 miles one way and lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. June Community Monthly Mixtape Music Therapy Gathering: Vulnerability & Strength

An evening of community, conversation, and creative expression centered on the Community Monthly Mixtape Project. Participants will listen to the songs collected over the past month, explore the theme of Vulnerability and Strength, and reflect on the intentions behind each selection. The space invites perspective shifts, chances to be heard, and a welcoming atmosphere of support. Time is set aside for anyone who wishes to share something related to the theme, whether that is a song, poem, artwork, thoughts, or food. It is equally welcome to simply relax and be present. Think of it like a book club for a music therapy outlet, a listening party where lyrics are read, songs are heard, and sharing happens at whatever level feels comfortable. Songs that align with the theme may be submitted to be added to the playlist. Contributing a song is not required to attend, and attendance is not required to contribute. All submissions are included on the final playlist anonymously. Light snacks and tea are provided, and participants may bring something to share. Alcohol is not permitted. The gathering is led by Abby Jacobi, a Board-Certified Music Therapist and Peter Hess Sound Massage Practitioner. Attendance operates on a pay-what-you-can basis with a suggested contribution of $15, and energetic barters are welcome. Space is limited to 12 people, so reserving a spot in advance is recommended.

ALT Dog Run oversees speed, distance, and duration for every session and may stop a run or decline consecutive runs if a dog shows signs of fatigue, injury, disobedience, or other bad behaviors. Animal health and safety are prioritized, so run time or distance may be reduced if concerning signs are observed.

July 29th - The Tap Yard Waukesha Chunky Knit Blanket Workshop

Set outdoors at the Waukesha location, this hands-on chunky knit blanket workshop welcomes both first-timers and seasoned knitters. Everything needed to craft a blanket is provided, and each registered participant receives a complimentary beer ticket. Attendees finish with a cozy blanket tucked into a take-home bag, plus emailed instructions and yarn-shopping tips for future projects. Blanket size is up to you. A tighter weave typically measures about 45 by 42 inches, while most projects turn out larger with a looser style. There are 16 seats available and pre-registration is required on a first come, first served basis. Two pricing options are offered. The $65 option lets you pick from the yarn colors brought to the workshop. The $85 option includes premium, softer, thicker yarn and the opportunity to preselect one or two colors, with color selection coordinated by email about four weeks ahead. Registration for the $85 option closes four weeks prior if not sold out, and the $65 option closes two weeks prior if not sold out. Participants ages 12 and older can complete a blanket on their own. This is an outdoor event, and any weather-related updates will be sent to the email used at registration. The location is dog friendly, and dogs must remain on 6 foot leashes. No carry-ins are allowed. Vehicles using Fox Brook Park, Minooka Park, or Menomonee Park require a daily or annual park entrance permit, and the annual pass covers all Tap Yard beer gardens within Waukesha County Parks. Payment should be completed within five days to avoid a violation ticket, entry is not guaranteed when facilities are at capacity or during special events, and entrance booths are not staffed with passes handled online. Vier North welcomes back MR. E for a live set that blends rock, pop, and Americana, weaving both covers and originals. The performance centers on Eric Wennerstrand—also known as Epic or Mr. E—on guitar and vocals. He began studying flamenco at eight, a foundation that fuels a rhythmic, hard-driving, and flashy guitar approach. Early exposure to a wide spectrum of classical and contemporary music, along with college-level music theory studies, shaped the broad stylistic range that comes through in his setlists and emotionally charged delivery. His playing has been characterized as epic in scope, both bold and expansive while carefully composed.

Sunny Sweeney brings her candid, witty brand of country to Shank Hall, offering comfort for mending hearts through songs that balance warmth and grit. For nearly two decades she has honed savvy honky tonk built on storytelling and memorable hooks, staying independent so she can remain true to her musical principles. Her latest album, Rhinestone Requiem, showcases elegant melodies, grown-up narratives, and a deep appreciation for traditional country forms. She has released five acclaimed albums since her 2006 debut, Heartbreakers Hall of Fame, and she champions other artists as host of the SiriusXM shows The Sunny Side of Life on Outlaw Country and Sunny Side Up on Willies Roadhouse. She produced Rhinestone Requiem with longtime guitarist Harley Husbands, and the pair continue to collaborate in the studio.

Open House and Night Sky Viewing at the Observatory

An open house at the Milwaukee Astronomical Society’s historic three-acre observatory features a presentation by Dawn Erb from UWM on the search for life beyond Earth. As night falls, volunteers guide telescope viewing, weather permitting, with tours, astronomy guidance, and looks at galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae. Activities and information from the Horwitz De-Remer Planetarium will be available on site. The gathering proceeds regardless of weather. It is a free public event, and donations are appreciated, with a contribution of at least $5 per person encouraged to help protect the grounds impacted by parking. On-site parking is available with guidance from volunteers. The meeting hall is wheelchair accessible with a ramp, and most other buildings are at ground level. Families are welcome, and kids can enjoy hands-on activities such as a night theater for creating constellations, along with offerings from the local planetarium. Dress for the weather. The meeting hall is heated and air conditioned, and restrooms are available. Bug spray and a small flashlight with a red cover are recommended to preserve night vision and minimize bright light during observing.
