Talking with Monuments Series 3 - Vet-to-Community

This five week program brings veterans, military families, and community members together at war memorials for open conversations about service and remembrance. Participants explore moral injury and consider how being honored, overlooked, or erased in public memory can affect veterans’ well-being and their transition to civilian life. The group visits five memorial sites, each with a brief history talk that spans conflicts from tribal struggles to Iraq and Afghanistan. At every stop, veteran facilitators share poetry and comics to breathe new life into these places and broaden the story of who has served. Through these visits and dialogues, the program centers themes of service, memory, identity, and healing while creating space for voices that have too often been missing and deepening understanding across the community.

Friday Night Live - Fast Friday Walk-In Workshops

Step into Fisk Avenue DIY Studio during Friday Night Live for a quick, creative stop between sets. Choose a project on the spot or book ahead for a short workshop, then still have time to enjoy the music nearby. Participants can make one epoxy geode coaster or a mini fluid art painting, selecting a style from the studio's design menu. Coaster makers receive epoxy, two mica colors and glitter, plus guidance to pour and shape a geode look. Painters work on a canvas panel with three colors and sparkle, with step-by-step help to pour and finish the design. Because both pieces need drying time, finished work stays at the studio and pickup is scheduled online in 1 to 2 weeks. Each project is $20. Registration is per project rather than per person, and partners are welcome. Workshops are nonrefundable. If plans change after booking, a one-time transfer to another day is available, or for select projects materials and instructions can be provided as a Take and Create Kit. A liability waiver is required before starting, and anyone under 18 must attend with an adult.

Reefer Madness: The Musical!

Outskirts returns to LaCage Niteclub for its third summer run of immersive theater with a production of Reefer Madness: The Musical. This satirical comedy riffs on the 1936 anti-marijuana film, following straight-laced teens Jimmy and Mary as they are enticed into a so-called Reefer Den and spiral into a whirlwind of jazz, sex, and crime, poking fun at the film’s exaggerated warnings. The staging caps the company’s twelfth season. The creative team includes direction by Samantha Paige, choreography by David Roman, and music direction by Jack Rutter. Due to mature themes and language, the show is recommended for ages 16 and older. The Den at LaCage, located on the basement level, opens an hour and a half before the performance for dinner.

Food and drink purchases are handled with separate checks, so you only pay for what you order. Space is limited and these mixers often sell out. Direct any questions to the organizer, as the venue does not have event details. Refunds are available if the organizer is notified before the event begins.
