The West Virginia Humanities Council celebrates 25 years of Little Lectures with a program tied to the nation’s 250th birthday, exploring history, rights, and shared values. In a fresh twist on the format, West Virginia author Neema Avashia reflects on life as a native Appalachian residing in Boston during this milestone. Avashia is the author of Another Appalachia from WVU Press, a book named one of the New York Public Library’s Best Books of 2022, and her writing has appeared in The Guardian, EdWeek, The Bitter Southerner, and other publications. She has taught civics in Boston Public Schools for nearly twenty years. The talk takes place in the parlor of the MacFarland-Hubbard House, the Council’s historic headquarters, offering a welcoming setting that connects the community with this landmark. Admission is $10 per person and includes refreshments, and reservations are recommended. Support is provided by the Herscher Family Foundation and the West Virginia Department of Tourism.
