Auditions for Green Day's American Idiot

Auditions take place in the Rehearsal Hall at the Actors Guild of Parkersburg. Due to the mature themes in Green Day's American Idiot, all auditioners must be at least 18 years old. This production is based on Green Day's Grammy-winning, multi-platinum album and the musical has earned two Tony Awards. The score features the entire American Idiot album along with additional songs from 21st Century Breakdown. The story follows Johnny, Tunny, and Will as they leave their hometown searching for purpose in the post-9/11 era. Their paths diverge when Tunny enlists and goes to the Middle East, Will returns to handle responsibilities at home, and Johnny is torn between a relationship with Whatsername and the pull of St. Jimmy and addiction. The piece is a high-energy rock opera with minimal spoken dialogue, told primarily through the album's lyrics and centered on potent social themes. Casting includes principal roles and ensemble. Johnny is a man in his 20s with a vocal range from B2 to B4, a restless suburban figure who heads to the city and battles between love and dependency. Tunny is a man in his 20s with a range from D3 to B4, a dreamer who follows Johnny before being drawn into military service. Will is a man in his 20s with a range from C sharp 3 to A4, who remains in suburbia to support his pregnant girlfriend and becomes increasingly disconnected. St. Jimmy is a man in his 30s to 40s with a range from C3 to F sharp 5, a magnetic alter ego who feeds Johnny's addiction and resents his romance. Heather is a woman in her 20s with a range from A3 to E5, navigating pregnancy and a strained relationship with Will. Whatsername is a woman in her 20s with a range from F sharp 3 to D sharp 5, a rebellious activist urging Johnny to choose authenticity over substance abuse. Extraordinary Girl is a woman in her 20s to 35 with a range from B flat 3 to E5, appearing to Tunny first as a vision during his injury and later as the nurse who brings him home. Ensemble roles are also available.

Sylvia

At Actors Guild of Parkersburg, this comedy centers on longtime spouses Greg and Kate, who leave the suburbs for Manhattan after raising children for twenty two years. As Greg eases out of his work as a financial trader and Kate gains momentum as a public school English teacher, a chance encounter in the park brings home a dog with a tag that reads Sylvia. A street smart Lab and Poodle mix, Sylvia becomes the spark for escalating disagreements, offering Greg relief from job frustrations and the uncertainties of middle age while Kate feels her place threatened. A string of funny and touching turns leads them to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a welcome part of their lives. BackStage praised Gurney’s comedy for its big laughs.
