An intermediate option runs roughly 5 miles at a steady effort with one quick regroup, while a fast fun group completes about 4.5 miles that keeps momentum without turning it into a race. For a more relaxed approach, the fun group goes around 4 miles by running the flats and descents, hiking the climbs, and regrouping as needed. The beginner group is approximately 3 miles with added breaks and extra walking on hills, offering a comfortable on-ramp for newcomers or a lighter week. A walk and hike option covers about 2.75 miles at a brisk pace, alternating between flat walks on the BMRR South Trail and outings that explore the old mines and Ike Maston for some elevation. First-timers can connect with a group leader or sweeper to find the right fit, and each group looks out for every participant so no one is left behind.

Christopher Myers shares the concepts and research shaping a new commission created for Wall to Wall, the museum’s continuing lobby installation series. Inspired by Birmingham’s histories of steel, labor, and the land, he reflects on where history meets mythology in the making of this work. Working across textiles, sculpture, and narrative, Myers explores how collective memory and a sense of place influence contemporary art. The program serves as an introduction to the exhibition and the key themes animating the new installation, and includes a reception followed by the artist talk.

Avondale Brewing Company hosts a rock benefit headlined by the Velcro Pygmies, with all ticket proceeds supporting Oak Mountain High School Cheerleading. Admission is general and standing room only. Girls in Aviation Day at the Southern Museum of Flight offers a welcoming introduction to aviation and aerospace for ages 10 to 18. Attendees can explore flight through hands-on activities, engaging speakers, flight simulators, and aircraft displays. Capacity is limited to 100 participants, not including parents or guardians. Each attendee will rotate through four structured sessions, and lunch will be provided for participants and chaperones. Onsite registration will be available if space remains.
