U.S. Space & Rocket CenterThursday Track Day
This track session centers on 1K repeats that seem straightforward at first, then build into a real challenge by the later reps. Plan to get there a bit early for some easy laps so you are warm before the work begins, because starting cold will slow you down. The workout opens with a pre-set of two to four rounds of 200 meters fast followed by 200 meters easy, a short back and forth to prime the legs for the main effort. The main set is run at your current 5K effort, which means hard yet controlled rather than an all-out sprint. Beginners complete three by 1K with three to four minutes of standing recovery, aiming for steady splits and a clear sense of what that 5K effort feels like. Intermediate runners do five by 1K with 90 seconds of standing rest, keeping the pace honest across all reps. Advanced athletes take on six by 1K with a 400 meter jog between intervals at about 75 percent effort, where the last couple of reps are designed to test focus and grit.

Lowe Mill DistrictVictoria Jansen - Book Launch Celebration and Signing Event
Blue Apple Books hosts local author Victoria Jansen for a celebration of the release of her fantasy novel, Ballad of the Banished, which also coincides with her birthday. Tickets are not required, and RSVPs along with book purchases are appreciated. The novel follows eighteen-year-old Yrsa, a Valkyrie who escorts the fallen from Midgard to Valhalla. When she falls in love with a warrior she is meant to reap and chooses to spare him, she breaks a sacred law. The Goddess of Death presents a stark choice... recover the scattered pieces of Freyja’s lost armor before midsummer and accept exile from Valhalla, or return to her Valkyrie sisters while the warrior suffers in the underworld. Yrsa sets out on this quest with Gunhild, a fearless shieldmaiden who refuses to let her go alone. As they face battles and share quiet moments, Yrsa wrestles with forbidden feelings and the heavy cost of duty. Failure would leave the warrior in torment and bind her to Midgard, forsaken by the gods and cut off from the sisterhood that once defined her. Victoria Jansen is a debut author and works as a family law paralegal when she is not writing. She lives with her husband and grown child, along with beloved dogs who are more lovable than clever. Her hobbies include crochet, karaoke, and reading speculative fiction.

Savannah Foley
A meet and greet and book signing with local author Savannah Foley celebrates the release of her young adult fantasy, Awakened: A Curse of Rose and Snow. The story reimagines Sleeping Beauty as Rose, once a free-roaming mountain girl from Valeria, awakens a century later to a land locked in winter by an enchantress at odds with the Fae realm of Avalon, with her memories of the events before the curse missing. Soren appears to be a protector, yet her family insists he is a damnsoír of the Fae, enslaved in body and soul, leaving Rose unsure whom to trust. Discovering she is the last of the Aerendel line and heir to a bloodkey that can open passages between worlds, she travels with loyal sentries through snowbound lands to seek the Fae king, confront hidden loyalties, and untangle questions about a prince she may have loved. The journey blends classic fantasy, a twisting plot, and a tragic romance as Rose’s growing powers push her toward a choice that could save Valeria or doom it. No ticket is required, and RSVPs and book purchases are appreciated. Foley writes young adult fiction with fantasy elements, created the Pickles and Pitch webcomic, contributed to the Let The Words Flow blog group, and previously published Woman’s World, later retitled Nameless, on FictionPress.
