Celebrating the 33rd season of the City Lights & Stars Concert Series at Burritt on the Mountain, this performance spotlights Huntsville’s In the Mood with title sponsorship from Redstone Federal Credit Union. The ensemble is a traditional 21-piece Glenn Miller style big band from Huntsville, created to honor Glenn Miller’s legacy while introducing new audiences to popular music from the big band era performed by local musicians. Sometimes nicknamed the Glenn Miller band of North America, the group seeks to capture the authentic sound of 1940s and 1950s greats such as Benny Goodman, Frank Sinatra, and Bobby Darin, offering swing tunes that appeal to all ages. Guests may bring chairs, blankets, and a picnic. Food trucks will offer food and desserts for purchase, and beer and wine will be available for purchase. Outside alcohol is not permitted. Monarch butterflies make a long seasonal trek from Canada to Mexico to spend the winter in warmer conditions. They follow known migration corridors and pause briefly along the way, and from September through mid October their path includes Huntsville, Alabama. This program offers a presentation about monarchs and their migration, followed by a live release of butterflies inside the Purdy Butterfly House. Attendees can learn about the journey these insects undertake and watch the monarchs take flight within the butterfly house.
