    Footloose

California Theatre, 351 Railroad Ave, Pittsburg · verified Sep 4
    See details

At the California Theatre, Footloose takes the stage in a version adapted by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie from Pitchford’s original screenplay, with music that includes songs by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins, and Jim Steinman. The story follows Ren, who moves from Chicago with his mother to a small farming town and discovers strict local rules that even forbid dancing, enforced by a preacher intent on keeping tight control over the town’s teens. Interest from the preacher’s daughter puts Ren in the crosshairs of her tough boyfriend, who works to damage Ren’s reputation while many townspeople are quick to believe the rumors. At its core, the tale contrasts a father grieving a son he lost with a young man missing the father who walked away, and it highlights the importance of hearing young voices and finding common ground across generations.
