Each session provides positive introductions to people, other dogs, and a variety of new sights and sounds, while also building comfort with grooming, veterinary visits, and routine handling. Foundational skills include settling on a mat, sit, coming when called, loose leash walking, and target work. Puppy focused topics cover preventing resource guarding, crate training, house training, and support for teething. Puppies must be 8 to 16 weeks old at the start of class. This is a six week course that meets weekly at the same time, and this event is the first session in the series.

Enjoy a shoreline run presented by the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, with distances for every level. Choose a one mile family fun run, a 5K at 3.1 miles, or a 10K at 6.2 miles. Each course starts and finishes at the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center, where open bay views and refreshing coastal air set the scene. All participants receive a commemorative T-shirt and medal, and taking part supports the center’s education and conservation programs. Strollers are welcome in the family fun run.
