SUN 6/21/26 - SoCal RC Tank Club @ Huntington Beach, CA

Remote-controlled tank battles unfold on detailed miniature battlefields with props, using infrared systems to register hits as teams compete until a single tank remains or complete objective-based scenarios. Spectators are welcome to watch. Returning members should upgrade the IR receiver to a LegoDEI V2 or V4, or another approved unit, as V3 is not accepted. The IR emitter must be recessed by about 9 millimeters, and shot patterns should be verified outdoors to ensure hits register only from the front arc. On the day, arrive early to help with setup, have your tanks ready to run as soon as possible, check in with Tang or Tommy for shoot and receiver compliance testing, and sign in with Steve or Andrew to take care of club dues. Bring extra batteries, basic hand tools, and anything needed to keep you and your tank going through the day. A backup RC tank can be useful. Public restrooms are available at the park, and bringing your own food, water, and comfort items is recommended. Plan for sunny conditions with a hat, sunscreen, and bug spray.

Saturday 6/27 Workshop: Paint a Koi under Resin

Create a koi painting and finish it with a glossy resin coat at a hands-on workshop held at the Surf City Artisan Fair at Huntington Beach Pier Plaza. This experience welcomes adults and youth ages 12 and up, and space is limited. Koi are often viewed as symbols of luck and good fortune, making this a meaningful project to make or gift. Participants begin with a wood panel that is already prepped and primed, then trace the koi using provided stencils before adding color. A professional artist and experienced instructor will guide each step at a comfortable pace so beginners and seasoned painters can achieve strong results. After the painting is complete, there is a short break to stretch, grab a drink or snack, visit the artisan fair, or take in the ocean views while the resin station is prepared. The instructor then demonstrates how to mix and pour resin, sharing tips for a smooth finish. The artwork is covered with aluminum foil to protect it while the resin cures. The resin needs 24 hours to harden, so participants take the covered piece home, keep it level, and let it set before displaying it the next day. All materials are supplied, including the wood panel, acrylic paints, brushes, stencils, resin, mixing tools, gloves, and an apron, along with instruction. Wear clothes that can get a bit messy, bring water to sip, and consider a snack or money for food vendors. By the end, you will head home with a finished piece you made yourself.

Free Advanced Salsa & Bachata Tryout

A free tryout invites intermediate and advanced dancers to audition for OC Salsa’s advanced salsa and bachata team. Over a six month training season, the same group learns two complete routines, one in salsa and one in bachata, including shines and partnerwork. The program is built to strengthen technique and social dancing in a structured, welcoming setting, with an optional performance goal at the OC Salsa students showcase. The tryout includes social salsa warm ups followed by guided instruction that covers sections of both choreographies. Space is limited. Participants are encouraged to wear dance shoes and comfortable workout clothing and to bring water. Team selections are announced at the end of the session. Weekly practices introduce new material and review previous work, with formations, frequent partner rotations, styling, and targeted drills to build balance and flexibility. The students showcase is a one day celebration with performances and open dancing afterward, and friends and family are welcome. This project is for dancers at the intermediate level and above, since basics are not covered. Pricing is $139 per month for the team, or $159 per month for the team plus full membership that includes all classes, bootcamps, and socials. There is no contract and cancellation is available at any time. Registration for the free tryout is handled by text. Questions can be directed to piluso69@gmail.com or the same phone number. Instruction is led by Arthur Levine, an OC Salsa instructor since 2019 with more than a decade of teaching and performance experience across salsa, casino, bachata, ballroom, hip hop, jazz, and other styles. He is a resident instructor at the Granada LA and leads its Rueda de Casino program, serves as a team director with Afeenix Rising Dance Co., and has performed across the United States with LA based groups including Afeenix Dance Company, Xpensabulz, and On2ourage. Auditions for Take Me Out

Auditions are being held for Take Me Out, the acclaimed play by Richard Greenberg, directed by Martie Ramm, at Stage West Theater. The story follows Darren Lemming, the star center fielder of the championship New York Empires, who chooses to share that he is gay. What he expects to be straightforward honesty triggers deep reverberations in the clubhouse, revealing bias and straining the ties of friendship, loyalty, and trust. The drama balances sharp humor with poignant moments as the team navigates the arrival of a hot-tempered new pitcher and the unexpected support of an unlikely ally. Nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, the play offers a powerful look at authenticity, courage, and the costs that can come with telling the truth. This production includes some nudity, adult language, and mature situations, and is intended for adult audiences.
