An anime and fiction themed meet brings a playful twist to the club’s RC tank battles at Lake Huntington Dog Park. Builders are welcome to showcase themed creations, or run their usual setups, since the theme is entirely optional and regular play continues as normal. Standard member dues will be collected. Battles use IR systems that function like laser tag, with teams fighting until a single tank remains or by pursuing set objectives on compact, prop-filled battlefields designed for a realistic look. Spectators are welcome to watch the action. Returning players should arrive with gear ready and up to spec. Use a LegoDEI V2 or V4 IR receiver, or another approved unit, since V3 is not permitted. Recess the IR emitter bulb by about 9 millimeters so the element is not exposed, and verify that hits register only from the front arc in an outdoor test. On the day, arrive early to help set up, have tanks ready promptly, complete a brief compliance check, and then sign in to handle dues. Plan for a full session by packing extra batteries, basic tools, and anything needed to keep both you and your tank going. A backup tank can be handy. 6/23 Japanese Fermentation Workshop: Koji Seasonings

Explore the essentials of Japanese fermentation in a hands-on workshop centered on koji, the culture behind many pantry favorites. Learn how this traditional starter elevates everyday ingredients into flavorful, gut-supportive staples and see how to fold salt koji and other koji seasonings into simple home cooking. The session welcomes beginners as well as anyone curious about fermentation, gut health, or the flavors of Japanese home cuisine. Expect to leave with clear guidance, approachable recipes, and the know-how to start using koji right away. The class begins with an introduction to how koji works and the role it plays in staples such as miso, soy sauce, sake, mirin, and vinegar. A guided umami tasting follows to highlight fermentation’s impact on depth and sweetness. You will compare soy sauce with soy sauce koji paired with tofu, taste salt pickles alongside salt koji pickles, try ama koji in place of sugar in spinach goma-ae, and sip amazake. Steamed rice is provided to complement the tastings. These preparations keep developing in your kitchen, and you will learn several ways to ferment them using a yogurt maker, sous vide, or ambient room temperature. An ama, or sweet, koji is demonstrated in class, and you will take home a ready-to-enjoy batch. Class policies include a minimum enrollment of three people with cancellations and full refunds issued 48 hours in advance if the minimum is not met. The Kellogg House Ghost Tour

A landmark Orange County residence with a haunted reputation sets the scene. Hiram Clay Kellogg built one of the county’s earliest Neoclassical Victorian homes and, after the death of his first wife, created a grand mansion as a gift for his second wife, Helen. Inspired by a love of tall ships, he crafted a three-story spiral staircase that coils around a central mast and rises to a crow’s nest that appears to have no bottom. Hiram later died, and Helen remained in the house until her own passing there. Today, unusual and unexplained occurrences suggest the Kellogg family may still make their presence known within this distinctively designed home.

Gyldenholt Anniversary

The Barony of Gyldenholt marks its 47th anniversary at Cedar Grove Park with Tournament of the Sun, a celebration of fire and spice presided over by Baron Brynjólfr Brandsson and Baroness Dyrfinna Drengsdottir. Attendees are invited to wear vivid hues like sun gold, bold crimson, and saffron, and to showcase styles from across periods including Greek, Norse, Ottoman, and Tudor. The day features contests to select new champions in armored, rapier, and cut and thrust combat, along with a youth champion recognized for honor and chivalry. In keeping with the theme, combat includes a playful twist where a well timed spicy compliment can earn an extra life in single elimination. The Arts and Sciences competition returns with displays under the Arts Ramada and populace voting. Entries may embrace the theme but are not required, and documentation is encouraged though not mandatory. Artisans can share their work during a dedicated showcase, and bardic performers present short pieces in the Baronial Pavilion as the Baron and Baroness choose the Bardic Champion. Theater enthusiasts can take the stage for The Motley Mêlée Theater, a family friendly scene competition inspired by heat, bold expression, and the flavor of the day, drawing on medieval life or familiar classics while keeping to the fire and spice motif. Special recognitions include Best Fiery Performance, the Paramour of Picante for the most flavorful compliment on the tourney field, and an award for the most creative use of herbs and spices in an arts entry. Participants are encouraged to weave herbs and spices into garb, pavilion decor, or feast settings, with the note to avoid ginger and jasmine due to allergy. Families will find hands on creativity under the Arts Ramada with a card making activity led by Baroness Dyrfinna that features period spices, plants, and flowers, and children’s activities take place between fighting rounds. Merchants are welcome with their own city license and insurance and should contact the stewards in advance. Adult event registration is $25 with a $15 discounted rate for adult members, and attendees 17 and under are guests of the Barony. Cash and checks are accepted at gate, and checks should be made payable to SCA Inc./Barony of Gyldenholt. This is a dry site. Parking at the park is limited, so plan to unload before parking at Pioneer Middle School. Saturday 6/27 Workshop: Paint a Koi under Resin

Create a shimmering koi painting sealed under glossy resin at a hands-on workshop hosted at the Surf City Artisan Fair. Designed for adults and youth 12 and older, this experience welcomes complete beginners and practiced artists alike. A professional artist provides step-by-step guidance while you work on a prepped wooden panel, trace koi shapes with provided stencils, and focus on adding color until your fish comes to life. The resin cures in about 24 hours, so keep your artwork level at home and display it proudly the next day. All supplies are included, from the wood panel, acrylic paints, brushes, stencils, resin, and mixing tools to gloves and an apron, along with expert instruction. Creativity & Timing WCS Workshop with Ben Morris at ATOMIC Ballroom!

Dive into the modern, conversational side of West Coast Swing in a three-hour workshop with Ben Morris at Atomic Ballroom. The focus is on turning creative choices into dancing that feels clearer, stronger, and more intentional. As the dance embraces more abstract movement, inventive shapes, and free-flowing expression, this session explores how those ideas live inside the music and structure so both partners stay connected to timing. Ben breaks down what happens when you move away from standard patterns, how those shifts impact rhythm, connection, and partnership, and how leaders and followers can guide those moments smoothly back into the framework of the dance. Expect practical tools for more freedom without losing clarity, and more expression without giving up control, all while helping your dancing feel grounded and musical. Best suited for social dancers who already know the basics and timing of West Coast Swing, as well as high-level competitors looking to integrate these elements more effectively. Ben is known for a thoughtful approach to movement, partnership, and musical interpretation, bringing insight that can change how you listen to, feel, and organize your dancing. Pricing options include 70 dollars presale or eight class credits, 80 dollars at the door, VIP Membership at 50 percent of the presale price and 50 percent off the door price the day of, and Atomic Campus Access Members at 45 dollars.

A family-friendly daytime rave takes over The Yost Theater with live DJs spinning classic 90s house and club tracks, a multi-sensory dance floor filled with lasers, confetti, balloons, and a parachute finale, plus a crafting area for hands-on fun. A licensed bar will be available for adults, and playful 90s attire is welcome, whether neon, grunge, plaid, checks, JNCO, or Kangol. All ages are welcome, but adult-only groups are not admitted, and parents remain responsible for their children. Everyone needs a ticket, including babies, with free tickets available for pre-walking infants; tickets are nonrefundable but can be transferred. The guideline is a maximum of three children per adult; for larger parties, aim for at least one adult for every two children, and groups with more than four adults per child should email sierra@bigfishlittlefishevents.com for pre-approval before purchasing. Accessibility includes a sunken dance floor with a wheelchair lift. Lighting is low with lasers and no strobe, and a bright upstairs room offers a quieter space for babies. Strollers must be parked at the entrance. Confetti cannons create a loud burst, so children sensitive to noise may prefer to keep some distance from the stage. Music levels are set and monitored to World Health Organization guidelines, creating an authentic club feel at safe volumes; ear protection is optional for especially sensitive little ones. Expect a lively crowd with limited seating and several hundred attendees, with the dance floor designed for adults and children to move together. Events are stewarded and risk assessed, the bar operates without glass, and short segments may be photographed or filmed for promotional use. This is designed as a family-focused club experience rather than a traditional children’s party, so there are no kids’ songs, games, or DJ shout outs. Falsettos

Falsettos offers a candid, compassionate portrait of family, love, and identity. Directed by Craig Tyrl, with musical direction by Jennifer Schniepp and choreography by Jennifer Kornsweit, the musical follows Marvin, his former wife, their son, his partner, and the circle around them as they navigate commitment, responsibility, and what it means to truly be there for one another. Set in the late 1970s and early 1980s as the AIDS crisis begins, it serves as both an intimate family story and a meditation on mortality, community, and the urgency of human connection. With wit, vulnerability, and a sweeping score, the show balances playful moments with profound heartbreak. It celebrates chosen family, resilience, and the transformative power of love, with themes that continue to resonate.
