Falsettos

Falsettos unfolds at Irvine United Congregational Church, telling a heartfelt story about the tangled bonds of love, identity, and family. Centered on Marvin, his former wife, their child, his partner, and the circle that surrounds them, the musical traces the responsibilities, missteps, and devotion that pull people together. Set in the late 1970s into the early 1980s as the AIDS crisis begins, it offers an intimate view of everyday lives while also considering loss, community care, and the need for connection. With quick wit, emotional candor, and an uplifting score, the show captures the joys and sorrows of imperfect love. The Wayward Artist highlights stories that foreground queer experiences, challenge conventional ideas of family, and honor the courage to live authentically, and this production reflects that spirit with warmth and humor.

A Little Bit of Everything Dance

A community dance night at Splits Bar at Forest Lanes brings a little bit of everything to the floor, with music shaped by the crowd. When responding, share the song that always gets you dancing, and the organizer will fold everyone’s picks into the playlist. If you have two favorites, both can be included. The evening begins with an easygoing line dance session led by experienced dancers, moves into a lively group dance that doubles as an icebreaker and introductions, then flows into open dancing. Nametags help make connections easy, and the format is welcoming for singles and anyone arriving on their own. July birthdays will be celebrated, including a special nod to two well-traveled celebrants, and cake will be served. Seating is first come first served, so arriving early helps with getting a table or a spot at the bar. There is a $10 community entry that supports meetup dues and equipment, with an upgraded speaker planned to boost the sound for this and future dances. Volunteers are appreciated to help greet guests, hand out nametags, handle check-in, and assist with entry. Payment options include cash at the door or purchasing a ticket in advance. An optional early dinner across the street may be announced in a separate post.

Teacher Comedy Matinee! The Unteachables Live with Miss Redacted

The Unteachables take the stage with a teacher-centered standup show that reaches far beyond school stories and lands with anyone who simply wants to laugh. Once the loud kids in the back of class, these comics later found themselves teaching America’s youth, and now share sharp, lived-in perspectives for educators and non-educators alike. Their credits include NBC, The Breakfast Club, The New York Post, and Roast Battle League. On their Paid Time Off Tour, they deliver an unapologetic salute to the world of education, spotlighting a past teacher of the year and a performer who lost a job over TikTok posts. Fresh from a Summer Break Special, expect unfiltered sets capped with a lively, anything-goes Q and A. Miss Redacted, a teacher and fast-rising comic, uses standup to work through years in the classroom, trading lesson plans for punchlines. She co-hosts the popular Teacher Quit Talk podcast, has racked up millions of TikTok views, and brings a Southern sensibility to her storytelling without a single learning objective in sight. Stephen Taylor grew up in Louisiana before moving to Kansas City, blending personal tales with Southern charm while performing at clubs, bars, and colleges around the country, alongside time spent in his own classroom. His work has appeared on The Breakfast Club and The New York Post and at San Francisco Sketchfest, and his debut album, The Bottom Half, hit number one on iTunes and airs on SiriusXM. Lou Pharis hails from the lesser-known parts of Louisiana, once chased football dreams and even took a swing at American Ninja Warrior, then turned to public education and standup after a rough day at school nudged him to try an open mic. His comedy has earned over 100 million social media views, he has headlined stages like Zanies, Comedy Works, and Wiseguys, been seen on NBC and Bored Teachers, and performed at festivals across the country.
