    Good Morning SLO

San Luis Obispo · Grace Central Coast, 1350 Osos St

At Grace Central Coast in San Luis Obispo, Good Morning SLO brings the feel of a community newspaper to life with a lively breakfast gathering that has been a local tradition for decades. Each month, community members hear directly from voices across the region, with updates on major efforts and stories that merit a broader spotlight, along with opportunities to connect, share ideas, and find inspiration. The program typically takes place on the fourth Thursday each month, except in November when it moves to the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. This edition features a range of perspectives. Ryan Dunn, co-founder and CEO of Mantis Composites and incoming REACH board chair, will trace the company’s path from a Cal Poly CIE startup to a San Luis Obispo based manufacturer of 3D printed carbon fiber components for aerospace and defense. Law school dean Erica Flores Baltodano will discuss the community effort to restore mediation services through the new Center for Dispute Resolution at San Luis Obispo College of Law, a nonprofit resource offering education, training, and accessible services following the closure of Wilshire Health and Community Services. Joe Little, Emergency Manager for the City of San Luis Obispo Fire Department, will outline preparations for natural hazards on the community’s mind, including wildfire in the wake of the Big Sur fires and possible El Niño effects, with lessons from the 2023 storms, coordinated strategies to protect residents and businesses, a look at vulnerable areas such as open spaces, creeks, and flood zones, and practical steps people can take now. Cal Poly Director of Athletics Carter Henderson will share his vision for Mustang Athletics, drawing on experience at Stanford University and the University of Washington. Hospitality leader Rusty Quirk will talk about revitalizing Linnaea’s Café since 2023 with intentional menu choices, a hospitable atmosphere, and community events, launching the Villain Bakery pop up through Anemoia LLC in 2026, and preparing SLODEGA, a quick service cafe with a creative approach in downtown’s historic Mission Plaza, with a focus on how each concept meets different community needs. Jacob Lopez, a Cuesta College Rising Scholars participant and student worker, will tell his story and how he now supports peers through a program that offers credit bearing courses, academic counseling, and services for justice impacted and incarcerated students. Entertainment comes from the Cal Poly Mustang Band, a 210 member student marching ensemble that performs at campus athletics and special events throughout the year. The featured sponsor for this program is Wallace Group.

Forbes Organ Series: “The General” (1926)

San Luis Obispo · Performing Arts Center , 1 Grand Ave

Christian Elliott, a leading theatre organist with classical training and a focus on historically faithful silent film accompaniment, performs live organ for Buster Keaton’s The General at the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo. The 1926 film, inspired by the true Civil War Great Locomotive Chase, blends comedy and action and is widely celebrated as one of cinema’s great achievements. Keaton performs every stunt himself, culminating in a renowned moment where a real steam locomotive crashes from a burning river bridge, noted as the most expensive shot of the silent era. A century after its debut, this presentation pairs the film with live organ to evoke the authentic atmosphere of silent-era moviegoing. Presented by Cal Poly Arts and sponsored by Bert and Candace Forbes, Francie Levy and Larry Akey for love of organ music, and Maryellen and Michael Simkins.

    The Devil Makes Three

San Luis Obispo · Fremont Theater, 1035 Monterey St

The Devil Makes Three brings its raw, genre-blending sound to Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo. For over twenty years, the trio has thrived where the grit of folk, the soul of the blues, and the energy of punk meet, channeling American roots traditions into shadowy storytelling and an electrifying live presence. Across seven studio albums and three live releases, they have cultivated a loyal following while evolving without losing the stripped-down intensity that defines them. Their newest album, Spirits, reconnects with their roots and tackles themes of grief, mortality, survival, and reflection. These songs are poised to land even harder on stage, setting the tone for a powerful night. Tickets are on sale.
