The hosts are Siarzhuk Douhushau, a Belarusian folk musician and tradition bearer based in Warsaw, cultural manager and community leader Nadzeya Norton, and the Kupalle Volunteer Team. Activities are offered in Belarusian and English. Suggested attire includes national costumes, embroidery, or light-colored clothing, with dresses or skirts encouraged for women and girls. Participants are encouraged to bring warm layers and blankets, beach chairs, and if possible a small camping table, along with food and drinks to share potluck style. The setting is an outdoor beach with open fire, uneven terrain, proximity to the ocean, and active elements such as jumping over the fire, so attendees are responsible for their own safety and belongings, and parents or guardians must supervise children at all times. A full weekend of obstacle challenges offers something for every equine and rider. Saturday begins with an in hand competition that is completed on the ground, where use of a halter and lead rope is preferred, and all equines are welcome regardless of size, breed, or age. The mounted obstacle challenge follows, with riders tackling the course under saddle. All riding disciplines are invited, and bitless headstalls are allowed. Sunday features an eight mile trail challenge with judged obstacles placed in camp or along the route, open to every riding style. Courses are set on flat, easy footing in the obstacle arena and along the property’s trail course, with sand footing in the warm up arena and round pen. Meals are at your own pace, and a food truck may be available. Awards include beautiful ribbons through sixth place for Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced, ribbons through third for Junior riders ages 13 to 17 and for Youngin’ riders ages 7 to 12, plus first place for Newcomer. Weekend high point awards are presented after the final event on Sunday. This weekend also contributes to the NorCal SUMMER Buckle Series, the NorCal TRAIL Buckle Tumbler Series, and the California BRACKET Buckle Series. Lifetime awards recognize both equines and riders, with advance sign up needed to qualify. Equines earn a kilt pin that gains copper, bronze, silver, and golden carrot charms as levels are achieved, with points following the equine no matter who is riding. Camp COHO is a three day outdoor program that follows the salmon journey from headwaters to the open ocean, blending hands on science, exploration, art, and stewardship to help students connect with California’s watersheds and marine life. Organized by Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project, it is designed for ages 12 to 16 and operates as a day camp only, with no overnight stay. This pilot year is limited to 10 students, and tuition is $250 per participant. Parents or guardians handle daily drop off and pick up at Long Marine Laboratory. Each day highlights a different part of the salmon story. The first day focuses on rivers and redwoods at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, with attention to freshwater ecology and salmon habitat. The second day features a visit to the COHO Conservation Hatchery to learn about salmon recovery, hatchery stewardship, and fish biology, along with insights into local Indigenous history and traditional land stewardship. The final day explores the Scott Creek Estuary and includes time at Long Marine Laboratory to see how ocean ecosystems influence salmon survival and conservation. The program is led by Nathan Smith, who holds a master’s degree in education and brings years of local teaching and outdoor education experience with students in the Monterey Bay region. The mission centers on inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards through science, adventure, and conservation. This is an active outdoor camp and cannot accommodate food allergies or medical needs. The Scotts Valley Motorcycle Show returns to Scotts Valley High School in Scotts Valley, California, presented in partnership with the Scotts Valley Kiwanis Club, Motocharities, Motonexus.com, and supporting sponsors. Building on last year’s showcase of vintage machines, the event expands this time with more room as activities shift to the upper athletic fields. A dedicated for-sale section will feature motorcycles offered by private sellers, and it is not a swap meet. Sellers may display an asking price and a phone number so interested buyers can reach them during the show. This fenced for-sale area sits close to the main show field, and bikes can be listed for sale and still be eligible for trophies. Class updates include consolidating the Japanese categories into two groups instead of three, with one trophy awarded in each class plus a Best of Show honor. A new Display Class invites youth to share eBikes, and all ages are welcome to participate in that category. There will be no swap meet this year. Spectators are required to purchase a ticket.

Catch Jurassic Park on a giant seaside screen as part of the FREE Movies on the Beach series, set right on the sand in front of the Colonnade. Enjoy the ocean air, starry skies, and the nostalgic taste of classic Boardwalk snacks while the adventure unfolds. Admission is free. A 15-minute intermission is included, and seating is first come, first served. Low-back chairs and blankets are encouraged, and everyone is asked to leave plenty of space so all guests have a clear view. Smoking is not allowed on the beach or the Boardwalk, and alcohol and glass are prohibited on the beach. A limited number of assistive listening devices can be checked out at the Mini Golf Kiosk inside Neptune’s Kingdom. Leilehua Lanzilotti’s “of light and stone” receives its West Coast premiere, honoring Indigenous Hawaiian identity and drawing inspiration from Nā Lani ‘Ehā, the “Heavenly Four” of Hawaiian royalty. James Lee III’s “Shades of Unbroken Dreams,” also a West Coast premiere and featuring pianist Alexandra Dariescu, channels the rhythm and ethical urgency associated with Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision. The program concludes with Sarah Hennies’s “The Grain House,” a world premiere commissioned by the Festival Creative Lab that expands the orchestra’s possibilities with her distinctive approach.

The Second Annual Santa Cruz Jug Band Festival
Free and open to all, this several days celebration spotlights the homespun joy of jug band music. The sound blends early jazz, blues, and gospel, and it welcomes instruments as simple as washboards, jugs, and kazoos alongside guitar, banjo, and brass, a lively mix that makes people stop and smile. Programming includes a participatory sing and play along with The Trolley Drops at Pono Hawaiian Grill, with lyrics projected for easy following. There is also a presentation in the MAH lecture hall titled “The Wild & Wacky History of Jug Band Music,” followed by a dance set at Abbott Square Market from The Puffball Collective under the theme “Prohibition to Psychedelia: Jug Band Roots as Rock.” A lineup at Abbott Square features The Rivertown Skifflers, The Quake City Jug Band, The San Lorenzo Valley Ramblers, The Trolley Drops, and The Washboard Rhythm Company, with sing-alongs or solo performances between sets. Race Thru The Redwoods begins and ends at Roaring Camp Railroads in Felton, California, with a 10K route that spends most of its miles beneath the canopy of Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Runners start on paved and dirt roads before moving onto forest trails that pass through meadows and trace the San Lorenzo River. The course climbs about 300 feet between miles 2.5 and 3.5, then descends on a mix of dirt paths and pavement back to the finish at Roaring Camp. Mile markers guide the way, and water and aid stations are staffed along the route. Race-day packet pickup takes place on site, and allowing extra time is encouraged. Professional chip timing is provided by Ford Timing, with results available immediately after the finish. Registered participants receive a continental breakfast. In addition, while supplies last, the Zayante Fire Department serves a post-race pancake breakfast that is free for runners and available to non-runners for $10, with proceeds supporting the department. All entrants receive an event T-shirt. Families will find a kids 1-mile run designed for ages 2 to 12, and parents may accompany their children. Awards go to the top three boys and girls in the 2–6, 7–8, 9–10, and 11–12 age groups. The 10K is the featured race, and every finisher earns a medal.

Presented by Blue Note, Oliver Tree performs at the Quarry Amphitheater on the UC Santa Cruz campus. Shaped from a former limestone quarry in the 1960s, this storied outdoor space sits at the heart of campus and reopened in October 2017 after a major renovation, marking the occasion with its first nighttime show featuring LA based band Chicano Batman. Over the years it has welcomed notable figures including Angela Davis, Ravi Shankar, Alfred Hitchcock and Cesar Chavez, and it continues to be a gathering place for live music and community. Often likened to a red rock amphitheater experience set among the redwoods, the Quarry is the largest outdoor venue in greater Santa Cruz with an existing stage and seating. Its terraced, asymmetrical design delivers clear sightlines and can shift between open floor and reserved seating layouts. With room for up to 2,600 attendees, it offers a natural setting suited to large-scale concerts. On-site parking is available for $20 per car and includes a shuttle to the venue. Parking tickets are not sold in advance.
