125th Anniversary: Benjamin Kolodziej
Immanuel Lutheran Church marks its 125th anniversary with a program featuring classical and theater organist Benjamin Kolodziej (pronounced koh-LOH-gee). The celebration opens with a hymn festival on the sanctuary organ with a festival choir, continues in the gym with a silent movie presentation of Buster Keaton’s 1925 Seven Chances accompanied by theater organ, and concludes with dinner. Kolodziej is an LCMS church musician, author, and composer, organist-choirmaster at St. John Episcopal Church in Dallas, and an adjunct professor and organist at Southern Methodist University. His experience includes service as former dean of the Dallas Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, recognition as a Carl Schalk Scholar at Concordia University-Chicago, and authorship of several books on Lutheran church music in America. He performs both classical and theater organ and accompanies silent movies, and in 2023 completed an eight-hour video recording session playing through and improvising on the entire Lutheran Service Book.
