WHY in the Parks returns to Beachland Park with a free outdoor yoga session led by WHY instructors. The class welcomes all ages and experience levels and blends poses, breathwork, and meditation in a peaceful natural setting. Bring a yoga mat, a towel, and water. Pre-registration is recommended. There is no fee to participate, and donations are appreciated. The session will be canceled if it rains or the grounds are wet. Hosted by Jesse and Tom, this group walk takes place at the MHS track and welcomes walkers of every experience level. Go at your own pace, whether that means a single lap or many, and stay for whatever length of time works for you. The focus is to spend time outside with neighbors, friends, and family in a safe, friendly setting while supporting healthier habits. There are no sales or promotions. The guiding principle is to be good neighbors who encourage and support one another. The group generally meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the MHF athletic complex unless the high school is using the facility.

Free on-street parking is available on both sides of the river. Paid parking is offered in the Connecticut Convention Center Garage; park on the fifth floor and use the north-side exit for direct access to the plaza. The class is free to attend, and donations made at the class help keep these programs available to all.

New Park Brewing hosts a monthly open mic in the Green Room, welcoming musicians, songwriters, comedians, and other performers. Each participant gets two songs or roughly ten minutes on stage. A professional PA and microphones are provided, so bring your instrument, your voice, and your ideas. Whether trying out new material or stepping on stage for the first time, performers of all skill levels can share their work and connect with a creative community. This series takes place on the first Wednesday of each month.

Explore a signature Hartford landmark in Bushnell Park, the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch, which commemorates 4,000 local residents who served in the Civil War. Volunteer guides provide free, informal tours that cover the Arch’s history, its design and construction, and the symbolism in its carvings and sculptures. Tours are brief and require no advance registration. Those with only a little time can skip the tour and climb 96 steps to the top for views of the park and the State Capitol.
