Their sound blends urgent guitars, forceful percussion, piano, and strings, paired with soaring vocals, and their influences have been noted alongside artists such as Sunny Day Real Estate, Fugazi, Radiohead, and Quicksand. After years of touring, Elliott paused in 2003, then regrouped in 2022 with original guitarist Jay Palumbo. During the hiatus, Chris Higdon performed with Frontiers and now also fronts Mirrorless, while Kevin Ratterman established a production career working with My Morning Jacket, Murder By Death, Ray Lamontagne, and Andrew Bird. The current lineup includes Ashli State on bass. Their 1998 debut connected the melodic sensibilities of Falling Forward with the intensity of Empathy, underscored by Ratterman’s precise and emotive drumming. The 2000 album False Cathedrals embraced a more refined, widescreen approach with piano and deeply expressive vocals, reaching listeners beyond hardcore circles. Song in the Air in 2003 continued that path with strings from Rachel’s, shimmering guitars, and keyboards, creating an atmospheric listen. Subsequent releases included the live album Photorecording and the collection Songs In a Transit Wind. Since reforming, the band has returned to the stage with powerful, engaging performances for longtime followers and new audiences.

Shoppers will find fresh produce, lamb and jams, breads and danishes, unique baked goods, cheeses, honey and eggs, Italian specialties and stuffed breads, freeze dried fruits, vegetables and candy, and even dirty soda. There are olive oil tastings and kitchen items, sea glass and seashell art, plants and trees, plus soaps, candles and fragrances. Rotating participants add pasta sauces and salsa, infused crackers and seasoned nuts, permanent jewelry with a shoreline vibe, woven baskets, pet treats, fresh cut flowers and bookish surprises like a blind date with a book. Sweet options include gluten free treats, crumbcakes and shaved ice, and there are handmade birdhouses, feeders and planter boxes. Candle makers feature wood wick and wax melt creations, some crystal infused or horror themed, and additional offerings range from authentic Italian sauce to freeze dried candy, an author and face painting. Civic engagement is part of the experience, with American Legion Post 89 supporting Wreaths Across America and a variety of local organizations sharing resources, program details, fundraising information and hands on activities. Celebrate Puerto Rican culture over two lively days on the New Haven Green. Presented by Puerto Ricans United, Inc. and CT LEAD, the festival opens with a Friday night concert featuring live music, a limited selection of food trucks, and no VIP area. The celebration continues all day Saturday with more live performances, a wider variety of food trucks, and health and wellness screenings. Towne Billiards hosts a single-day 9-ball doubles tournament where teams compete for the opportunity to represent Greater New Haven APA in Spring 2027. Teams play in an alternate shot format with a combined team handicap limit of 10, and the bracket follows a modified single-elimination structure. Each participant must have at least 20 9-ball scores in their APA history within the two years leading up to the tournament entry deadline. The entry fee is $100 per team. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited.

Throughout the day, writers, artists, thinkers, and people from the community come together for thoughtful panels, hands-on workshops, and a curated vendor marketplace. Discussions and activities highlight Black women not only as figures of the past, but as architects of the future. The atmosphere is intentional, inspiring, and deeply communal, with storytelling serving as a space for connection, reflection, and joy. Attendees can engage, build, and honor the many ways Black women continue to rise and carry communities forward. A call for presenters and vendors will be announced soon.
