"Herencia" Photo exhibit by Asela Torres

Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center, 111 SW 5th Ave, Miami · verified Oct 4
    See details

Creation Art Center presents Herencia, a photography exhibition by Asela Torres that traces the deep roots of Spanish influence across Florida’s buildings and historic places. Focusing strongly on St. Augustine, the images feature sites such as Castillo de San Marcos, Fort Matanzas, Mission Nombre de Dios, and the Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche, alongside later landmarks including Key West’s Instituto San Carlos and Miami’s Freedom Tower. Together these scenes show how fortresses, churches, civic buildings, monuments, and gathering spaces carry a shared Hispanic story that links Florida with Spain, Cuba, and the broader Hispanic world, and how that heritage continues to shape the state’s cultural life. Presented at the historic J.W. Warner House, home of the Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center, and curated by Grace Piney, the exhibition also opens a conversation about preservation by placing Torres’ photographs in dialogue with Miami’s own architectural history.

    Miami/Key Biscayne Bikeway Tour

Virginia Key Parking Lot, Parking · verified Oct 9
    See details

Set out on a smart-guided, selfie-style cycling adventure through Miami and Key Biscayne that strings together ocean views, beaches, and two expansive parks on an easygoing course. Approximately 92 percent of the 17 mile route follows dedicated bikeways and the terrain is flat aside from a single bridge, which makes for smooth pedaling while taking in a lighthouse, historic Key Biscayne, and other coastal highlights. Begin from a convenient parking area or roll in from nearby accommodations, then follow a flattened loop that repeats a short section before closing the circuit. Wind can occasionally add a touch of challenge, and brief stretches use commonly ridden roadways where sidewalks are an option when available under Florida rules. Your smartphone becomes the guide. After receiving the route, open the navigation link for clear voice and map prompts that keep you on course and guide you back if you wander. Ride at your own pace, pause for photos or refreshments, and resume when ready. Access to the route does not expire. The offering includes navigation links and instructions, while attractions, lodging, food, and rentals are not included. Along the way you can pass places such as Beach Park, Crandon Park and Crandon Beach, Miami Seaquarium, Cape Florida Beach, the Cape Florida Lighthouse, the former Crandon Park Zoo site, Neptune Memorial Reef, Hobie Island Beach Park, the Old Rickenbacker Causeway and nearby beach, Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, and the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center. Portions of the ride follow the Osprey Beach Trail, Bear Cut Nature Trail, the Rickenbacker Bikeway, and the Fossilized Reef Bike Trail. Admission may apply at select stops, including Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, which is free Monday through Thursday, 10 dollars on Friday through Sunday, and 12 dollars on holidays, and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, which is 2 dollars per person.
