Killer Queen – A Tribute to Queen

Returning to the historic Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, this acclaimed tribute brings Queen’s music to the stage. Formed in June 1993, Killer Queen began with university shows in London, mirroring how the original band first got started 21 years earlier. Momentum built quickly, and by 1995 they held a residency at the Strand Theatre in London’s West End with nationwide BBC coverage, marking a first for a tribute act. Lead singer Patrick Myers has described a path that started as a short-lived idea and grew into performances in many of the same arenas Queen once played. After touring Europe and Russia in 1999, the group received an honor recognizing them as the best tribute band worldwide at a Leicester Square ceremony hosted by Suggs of Madness. In 2001 they reached number one by recreating Queen’s harmonies for The Real Life with Fatboy Slim, and their audience kept expanding. Highlights include a 2005 appearance at Ahoy Stadium, followed in 2006 by a Waverley Stadium show in Edinburgh with Bjorn Again and The Bootleg Beatles. That performance led to representing Queen in a re-staged Live Aid organized by Sir Bob Geldof, plus an arena charity concert with him supporting people experiencing homelessness. In 2009 they returned to a sold out Ahoy with their Queen Spectacular production and were named Best Concert of the Year 2009 by Sweden’s Vasteras concert hall. The band later focused on the United States, adding Colorado’s Red Rocks Arena to their regular sell out stops. Recent years brought arena shows across Europe in 2023, including Stavangar in Norway and UK dates in Cardiff, Nottingham, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Leeds. In 2024 they completed an arena tour of Lithuania, played UK arenas in Liverpool and Newcastle, and added more sell out appearances at Red Rocks and Austin City Limits. This performance presents Queen’s songs delivered by a seasoned tribute with decades of international touring and recognition.

Not long ago, many Black Floridians were denied access to pools and beaches, and communities organized wade-ins to challenge segregation. Coming together at the shoreline during Pride honors intersectionality and the freedom to live authentically. Parking notes: the park has a two-sided lot with hourly payment through ParkMobile. Lost in the Summer of '69: A Conversation with Eliza Knight

USA Today bestselling author Eliza Knight will be in conversation with L.L. Kirchner, author of Florida Girls, to celebrate Knight’s new novel, Lost in the Summer of '69. Books will be available for purchase, and preordering is recommended to secure a signed copy. Set in the music-filled summer of 1969, the novel follows three generations of women. Eleanor Bell, facing the possibility of soon losing her ability to sing and play guitar, heads west to follow the festival scene and reclaim the thrill of performing. When she leaves without telling anyone, her daughter Leanne teams up with her own daughter, Nora, who is about to become one of Yale’s first female undergraduates. After hearing Eleanor on the radio singing, they set off in a Lincoln Continental on a cross-country search, always just behind the woman Johnny Carson has called the Dame of Rock and Roll. The story blends nostalgia with the warmth of summer and celebrates savoring the encore, whatever the next act brings.

Clearwater beach day trip adventure with the FUN girls

Enjoy a sun filled day at Clearwater Beach with soft, wide sand, great food options, and plenty to explore. Parking is planned near the lots by Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill and Palm Pavilion, placing restaurants and bars within a short walk. Transportation by bus is available for $45 per person, and the bus departs on schedule. Be prepared to carry your own belongings from the drop off point to the sand since it is a bit of a walk. The beach is bustling and easy to navigate on foot, with restrooms and rinse off showers nearby. Pier 60 offers vendors and snack spots. Spend the day strolling the shoreline, floating in the Gulf, browsing shops, or grabbing a drink or bite along the strip while taking in the lively scene. The sand can get very hot in the sun, so water shoes help. Pack light for comfort. A chair you can comfortably carry works well, or you can rent one on site for an extra cost. Picnic lunches are welcome, and discreet BYOB is noted. Sunscreen, a hat, a cover up, water, snacks, a small cooler you can carry yourself, and a pool noodle or compact float make the day easier. Nearby dining is within easy reach, including Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill with casual beachfront seafood and live music, Palm Pavilion with coastal views and a relaxed setting, Crabby’s Dockside with multiple levels, rooftop views, and a lively bar, and Marina Cantina a little farther away with rooftop, Mexican inspired dishes and cocktails. Shopping options include Pier 60 vendors, Surf Style, Ron Jon Surf Shop, and small boutiques along Mandalay Avenue for souvenirs, cover ups, beach hats, and other finds. If rain arrives, the plan shifts to a nearby bar or restaurant for drinks and lunch until the weather improves. Expect a busy beach, consider sticking with a buddy, keep your load manageable, and enjoy a flexible, explore as you go kind of day.

Dunedin Beach Cleanup with Salty Soul®

The Salty Soul Foundation brings its monthly beach cleanup back to the Dunedin Causeway, focusing on caring for the shoreline and removing litter. Since 2017, the team and volunteers have cleared more than 33,000 pounds of trash from beaches in Florida and California, and this effort continues that work one piece at a time. All supplies will be ready on arrival, including gloves, buckets, and trash bags, so participants only need enthusiasm and sun protection. Co-hosting organizations from the Tampa Bay area will be there, offering opportunities to connect with local environmental advocates. Salty Soul merchandise will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting cleanup costs and advertising fees. The gathering also features a celebration of Hunu’s Journey, the children’s book by co-founders John and Mary, with a moment to acknowledge its growing influence on future ocean stewards.
