The Science of Guinness Book of World Records

Museum of Discovery and Science, 401 SW 2nd St, Fort Lauderdale · verified Aug 30
    See details

Explore how unusual and wonderful records evolve into showcases of human capability through real science. This exhibit invites visitors to dig into the biology, psychology, and mechanics behind record-setting efforts, then put those ideas to the test by challenging strength, focus, reaction time, and endurance in activity zones that track results in real time. Begin with an immersive film that introduces the origins of Guinness World Records and its role as the global authority on verified achievements. An interactive quiz clarifies what qualifies as an official record and connects each attempt to core scientific concepts and criteria. Examine remarkable milestones, aim for top scores in dedicated attempt areas, and gain insight from an official adjudicator and a scientist. Sharpen concentration with memory tasks, tactile puzzles, and games inspired by strategies used by record holders. Try rapid-response challenges that measure your speed and display progress on live boards while learning how to improve performance. Push stamina with trials like a hang bar and balance boards and discover the science behind muscle fatigue and endurance. Conclude with a film featuring inspiring stories from Guinness World Records holders, then capture the moment by posing with certificate backdrops. There is also a chance to receive an official Guinness adjudication, creating a lively blend of STEAM learning and interactive play that shows how record-breaking is within reach. The exhibit is included with museum admission and is presented locally by Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.
