DeLand Death Cafe!

Gather at Destinations Gift Shop for a relaxed Death Cafe conversation that welcomes honest talk about death, the one inevitability. Launched in England in 2011 and now happening in about 100 countries, these nonprofit gatherings focus on open dialogue rather than grief counseling or bereavement support. The goal is to build comfort and clarity around death and dying so people can reflect on life with greater intention. This meeting offers a welcoming, pressure free space where participants can share questions, stories, fears, hopes, and whatever else comes up while learning from one another in a respectful setting. There is no fixed agenda, no preset themes, and no hierarchy, just open conversation. Attendance is free. Refreshments such as coffee and baked goods are available for purchase from Destinations.

A Hamilton-inspired spring fundraiser transforms the Athens Theatre into a showcase for Broadway talent, with four artists from the hit musical taking center stage for a one-night concert. Miguel Cervantes, who led the title role in Chicago from 2016 until that production closed in early 2020 and then on Broadway through 2024, appears alongside Morgan Anita Wood, whose nearly eight-year journey with the show culminated in her Broadway debut as Eliza and included the Puerto Rico engagement starring Lin-Manuel Miranda, plus appearances in Kinky Boots at the Hollywood Bowl and Loving and Loving at Actors Theatre of Louisville, as well as a recent season of Tim Robinson’s The Chair Company on HBO Max. Tamar Greene, the longest-tenured George Washington on Broadway, brings commanding vocals and a résumé that spans leading roles on Broadway, national tours, and regional stages, including a recent turn as Coalhouse Walker Jr. in Ragtime at Stages St. Louis. Rounding out the lineup is Ta-Tynisa Wilson, a Schuyler Sister standby whose credits include Dreamgirls, The Color Purple, and The Bodyguard, along with national recognition as a Top 24 contestant on Season 10 of American Idol. These guest artists share the stage with members of the Athens Theatre family in a concert inspired by Hamilton and the music and storytelling that made it a global phenomenon. Proceeds support the Athens Theatre Youth Academy, the continued preservation and care of the historic 104-year-old venue, and efforts to offset recent reductions in arts funding at the state and other levels. Black tie is suggested. Premium seats can be paired with an optional $100 VIP add-on that includes access to a VIP tent with passed hors d'oeuvres, dessert, and an open bar.

Panthers Fall Registration

Taylor Robenalt: Peaks & Valleys | Museum of Art - DeLand

Through layered symbolism and clear narrative threads, her sculptures bridge ceramics and sculpture, using imagery to consider change and renewal. The exhibition invites reflection, encouraging visitors to connect the works with personal themes of identity, transformation, and our collective experience. Robenalt teaches at Ringling College of Art and Design. Her practice balances accessibility with emotional depth, welcoming intuitive engagement. She holds a BFA in bronze casting and stone carving from Southern Methodist University and an MFA in ceramics from the University of Georgia, and her record includes ten solo presentations alongside participation in more than forty international group exhibitions. The show blends blazing guitar work, classic synth sounds, tight harmonies, and a driving rhythm section, creating a concert experience that invites sing along moments to favorites such as Too Much Time on My Hands, Come Sail Away, Renegade, More Than a Feeling, Amanda, and Long Time. Reserved seating is offered, with preferred reserved seats at $40 in the first six rows of the orchestra and two rows in the center balcony, and general reserved seats at $35. Free Shred Day - Orange City

Safely discard paper documents at a complimentary shredding event at Launch Credit Union’s Orange City branch. Both members and non-members are welcome. Bring up to five boxes of paper to be securely shredded and disposed of at no cost. To help everything run smoothly, do not include plastic items such as bags or CDs, and avoid metal or other trash. Remove metal and binder clips, while staples may remain. Place your boxed or bagged materials in your trunk, remain in your vehicle, and a Launch representative will retrieve them. Materials cannot be left at the branch, and shredding is accepted only while the event is in progress.

Following a 2022 lineup refresh that added the Molasses Brass and a drummer with a cyborg persona, they have toured across the country. Their most recent album, Pop City, arrived in 2025. Paws 2 Run 5k for Veteran Rescue

A family-friendly 5k run and walk at Lake Beresford Park supports Veteran Rescue, benefiting veterans, first responders, and animals in need as the organization rebuilds and works toward a healing ranch. The course follows the park trail and returns to the starting point, and the event is not timed. Awards will recognize the first, second, and third finishers, with paw-themed medals for the top three. Leashed dogs are welcome, and donations are accepted to further the mission.

Clear out old paperwork and protect personal information at a free community shredding event in Deltona. Attendees may bring up to five paper grocery bags or banker boxes for secure document shredding, and plastic bags or wet paper are not accepted. The event also offers safe disposal of sharps (needles, syringes, and similar items) along with assistance for license renewals, tabs, and license plates; any plates turned in will be recycled rather than canceled. The location is Deltona City Hall.

2nd Annual Drowning Prevention & Child Safety Day

Now in its second year, this event centers on drowning prevention and child safety. The day features educational information focused on these topics, along with participation from additional vendors. It takes place at Veterans Memorial Park.

Narrative Creatures Workshop with Artist Taylor Robenalt | Museum of Art - DeLand

A hands-on workshop led by artist Taylor Robenalt focuses on building small sculptures that weave together animal and plant forms. Working with clay through coil, pinch, and slab methods, participants shape creatures and botanical elements that express personal stories. Instruction covers how to use symbols, images, and narrative ideas so each person leaves with a unique piece that reflects their voice. Clay and basic tools are provided, and attendees may bring their own tools if preferred. Pieces created during the session will not be fired, but they can be taken home. All About Titanium

Dive into the creative possibilities of titanium in a two-day beginner workshop with instructor Gail Thayer. Learn how to texture, cut, roller print, anodize, engrave, and connect this lightweight, hypoallergenic metal to craft earrings, pendants, and other wearable pieces. No prior metalsmithing background is required. Tuition is $399 plus a $70 materials fee. The materials fee covers titanium sheets, use of tools, and shared supplies, and additional materials can be purchased. Enrollment is limited to a small group of 4 to 10 students to support personalized guidance. Registration is available, and questions and payment are handled by Carol Zodrow.

Kids Mother's Day Project

Children will take part in a drop-off workshop where they create a personalized Mother’s Day gift for Mom, with donuts and juice provided. When registering, include your child’s birthday because it is required to complete the project. Seating is limited for this class.

Spring Recital 2026

Athens Theatre Youth Academy celebrates the hard work of its voice, acting, and dance students with a spring recital at the Athens Theatre. Two separate performances are planned so audiences can see these young artists share what they have been rehearsing all year. Seating options include preferred at $18 and general at $15, with a $5 processing fee added to each ticket. Breaking Bad Poetry Indy Qualifier

This winner-takes-all poetry slam determines the Indy representative for MainStreet Art and Culture Slam at both the BlackBerry Peach National Poetry Slam in Kansas City, Kansas and the Southern Fried Poetry Slam Festival Indy Competition in Orlando, Florida. As many as ten poets each perform two poems. The opening round order is randomized, the second round runs from highest to lowest based on earlier scores, and the top four advance to a reset final with a fresh draw. The highest score in the last round wins. If there is a tie, totals from the first two rounds are added. If a tie remains, additional unscored rounds continue until a champion is decided. The winner claims the full prize package and the official MainStreet Art and Culture Slam Indy Champion title, including $250, a berth at the BlackBerry Peach National Poetry Slam with a $250 in-competition stipend issued after the first round in Kansas City, Kansas, and a berth at the Southern Fried Poetry Slam Festival Indy Competition with dues covered if needed. This free, in-person class is designed for expectant parents. The one-hour course will cover numerous topics to prepare you for your new baby. At Deltona Regional Library, Florida Sea Grant Agent Carolyn Kovacs with UF/IFAS Extension shares insights into the sea turtles that nest along Volusia County beaches. The program highlights how nesting and hatching occur and offers practical ways to help protect these turtles so they continue returning to the county’s shores for years to come.

The Surrogate Band

Memorial Day Ride

Now in its third year, this Memorial Day ride sets off from Deltona City Hall and concludes at OB's Restaurant & Lounge. Attendees can expect ceremonies and speakers, along with food and drinks, vendors, and entertainment. Proceeds support UCF Restores and Deputy Michael Morgan, who is currently hospitalized after a motorcycle accident that occurred while escorting one of the rides.

2026 Proclamation of Love

At Deltona Amphitheatre, this celebration of the Deltona Pride Month Proclamation offers family-friendly entertainment for all ages. Enjoy food trucks, story time, vendors, performances, and singers, and it is free for everyone. Hosted by Theater Guy, the program includes a welcome to Proclamation of Love, the “Love is in the Air” show, The Mini Proclamation of Love Parade, Storytime with Love, the “Love is Worth Fighting For” show, and a “Love Wins” finale. Chamber members receive complimentary admission, while nonmembers pay a $10 ticket fee. Movie Magic Video Camp - Summer Session A

At Black Rose Bookshop, an interactive evening with an indie author invites readers to connect directly with the writer, talk about the book, and enjoy a book club style conversation. There will be time to socialize, then hear from the author live, followed by a Q&A. This special session is in addition to the regular monthly book club, not a replacement. To get the most from the discussion, participants are encouraged to have a copy of the book beforehand. DeLand Death Cafe!

Hosted at Destinations Gift Shop, this Death Cafe offers an open conversation about death, the one certainty in life. The Death Cafe movement began in England in 2011 and gatherings have taken place in around 100 countries. It operates on a not for profit basis and is not a bereavement support group or a counseling service. The aim is to raise awareness, normalize and demystify death and dying so people can consider how to make the most of their finite lives. The tone is casual and inclusive, supportive without pressure, creating a respectful place to reflect, share perspectives and learn from one another. Participants can speak candidly, exploring questions, experiences, fears, hopes and whatever else arises. There is no preset agenda or themes, and no hierarchy, making it a discussion group rather than grief support or counseling. Attendance is free.
