The Grassy Key Paddle Battle gathers paddlers at Grassy Flats Beach Club & Resort in Marathon in the Florida Keys, with racing split between the resort and Keys Cable. The distance event at Grassy Flats features Round da Duck, a 7 mile course with a $65 entry. Divisions include SUP 14 feet, SUP 12 feet 6 inches and under, OC1, OC2, and surfski. A captain’s meeting leads into competition, and awards are presented at the Palm Deck. Packet pickup is available. The SUP Sprint Battle takes place at Keys Cable with a $20 entry and a knockout heats format. Each competitor starts on the water in a dedicated lane, paddles 100 meters to a buoy, makes a left shoulder turn, then sprints 100 meters back to the finish for a total of 200 meters. A live cash pot is offered for the sprint race. The event seeds the pot with $50, racers may opt in with a $10 buy in, and separate pots are maintained for men and women. The buy in must be completed before racing begins, only participants who opt in are eligible for payout, and prizes are paid after the finals. The total pot is announced before the first heats.
