Northbridge University - LakelandBooks and Cooks - FREE Family program!
Books & Cooks is a free 12-week literacy and nutrition program created in collaboration with New Worlds Reading. Weekly, hands-on sessions help families nurture a love of reading, build healthy eating habits, and strengthen connections at home. Throughout the program, families share their experiences as part of a research study that measures the program’s impact. Participants choose either a fall or spring session. The schedule blends in-person classes on alternating weeks with self-paced online activities in between to reinforce what is learned face to face. In Haines City, the program is open to families with a child in kindergarten through fifth grade. In Plant City, it is available to families with a child in kindergarten or first grade in Hillsborough County near the Polk County line. Benefits include free books, childcare, dinner, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Families can also earn incentives for completing research surveys. Space is limited.
