Starting in the 2026–27 school year in Florida, the Second Chance Act requires first time incoming high school student athletes to obtain a cleared electrocardiogram before taking part in tryouts, practices, or interscholastic competition. To support this, Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, in partnership with Who We Play For, is offering no cost EKG screenings for children and young adults ages 10 to 21. Screenings are available on multiple dates at several locations, including Hollywood, Miramar, Coral Springs, and Wellington, and online registration is required. An EKG is a quick, painless way to record the heart's electrical activity and can help detect certain heart conditions before symptoms are noticeable. Before the appointment, complete the required online consent form and avoid exercise for at least 20 minutes. A pediatrician's signature is not required.
