Advanced Concealed Carry Course
At Gun World of South Florida, this four hour intermediate course focuses on the realities of drawing and using a pistol in a self defense encounter for concealed carry license holders who want to sharpen personal protection skills beyond static range practice. It is intended for proficient, experienced handgun shooters and is not a target shooting class or a fit for newer shooters. Training covers stress fire, line of sight in combative environments, correct drawing methods including from concealment, a combative shooting platform, an introduction to combative techniques, two handed subconscious sight picture work, trigger reset, and the transition from routine target practice to defensive handgun training. Participants must already be comfortable operating their firearm independently, having fired at least 750 rounds in the past 12 months through the handgun they will bring. Required competencies include safely loading, unloading and showing clear, handling basic malfunctions, and maintaining consistent fundamentals at a level of unconscious competency. For semi automatics, students must be able to rack and lock the slide open and clear a jam. A strong command of firearm safety rules and range etiquette is expected. Students will draw from a holster and shoot and move in close proximity to others without barriers, so mental and emotional readiness for that environment is essential. A valid concealed weapons license must be presented at check in. Those without a current license from a US state may arrange a background check during booking, with the report due no later than three business days before class. If help is needed with any prerequisite skills, private training is recommended beforehand. Helpful but not mandatory preparation includes Concealed Carry Next Steps or Private Instruction. Bring a concealed carry handgun with a compatible holster, at least two magazines or revolver speed loaders, 200 rounds of ammunition, full wrap eye and ear protection, a sturdy belt built to support a firearm, pants with belt loops, closed toe shoes, a cover garment such as a lightweight button up shirt, and pen and paper. Avoid V neck or tank top shirts. All required equipment and clothing are needed to participate in the on range portion. Class size is limited, with a maximum student to instructor ratio of 6 to 1 and total enrollment typically ranging from 5 to 12 depending on location. The course cost is 175 dollars and the length is four hours. Full payment is due to the instructor at the start by cash or credit, and a credit card is required to secure a reservation. An administrative fee of 25 dollars applies to any schedule change or cancellation, a 75 dollar late cancellation fee applies to changes within seven days, and a 175 dollar fee applies to cancellations within 24 hours and no shows. Preregistration through Florida Firearms Training is required and can be completed by phone at 561-450-9586.
