Hadestown: Teen Edition

At The Sarasota Players, Hadestown: Teen Edition presents Anaïs Mitchell’s musical retelling of two Greek myths, weaving together the romance of Orpheus and Eurydice with the fraught relationship of Hades and Persephone. Set in a stark, industrial underworld and driven by a folk and jazz score with a New Orleans flavor, the piece blends ancient storytelling with a modern, Depression-era aesthetic. When Eurydice is drawn below by Hades, Orpheus follows with only his music and a steadfast belief in love. The journey delves into trust, sacrifice, power, doubt, and the price of following your heart, asking whether hope can persist in the darkest places. With a soulful score, poetic narration, and striking imagery, this intimate yet expansive tale brings an old legend into urgent focus.
