Celebrate Father’s Day at Venice Beach with a relaxed cookout and optional shore diving. Fathers eat at no charge, children 10 and under are free, and other guests are $20 per person. Expect BBQ chicken, burgers, and hot dogs, and feel welcome to bring a side dish to share. Food will be served in waves throughout the day. Divers are encouraged to explore the shoreline. Each dive team must bring its own dive flag. Helpful items include a mesh bag for collecting shark teeth, a flashlight, a compass, and a buddy connection line. Typical conditions feature water around 85°F, visibility near 5 feet that can vary, and depths of roughly 10 to 20 feet, which is great for fossil hunting but makes buddy communication more challenging. Gear rentals and purchases are available from Woods & Water, equipment transport is offered for $25 per set, private dive guides are available for $50, and a pool-based scuba skills refresher is recommended if it has been more than a year since your last dive with sessions starting at $95. Look for covered pavilions near the boardwalk to the beach next to Sharky’s on the Pier on the southwest side of the parking lot. This gathering also marks Eddie’s first Father’s Day.
