America’s Boating Course is an in-person class that covers essential skills for safe time on the water and meets Florida’s boating education requirements. Thanks to a grant from the Charlotte County Marine Advisory Committee, there is no cost to attend. Completing a boating course can help reduce the risk of accidents and injuries, may lower boat insurance premiums, and qualifies participants for the Florida Boater Education Card, which is required for some operators of boats powered by 10 horsepower or more. The program spans 12 hours and includes an introduction to using local nautical charts to build confidence in navigation. Impressionistic Butterfly Workshop

At The Artistic Flip Flop, explore a hands-on workshop devoted to crafting an impressionistic butterfly with specialty handmade papers and mixed media. Guided by artist Kiera Light, participants will create a unique piece using torn Agave paper from Thailand and Kozo paper made from mulberry bark, add sculpted texture with molding paste, and finish with real dried flowers, beads, and additional embellishments. All materials are included, and beginners are welcome. The cost is $65. The displayed image serves as an example of what can be made. Kiera is a mixed paper and plant fiber artist who shares how natural fibers combine with other media to produce striking results, and she accepts commissions with work available for purchase at the Cottage in Nokomis. Due to limited space and advance preparation, the class is nonrefundable. If attendance becomes impossible, another person may take your place.
