Founded in 1991 by Jeff Pike, who invited drummer and harmonica player Scott Nickerson, founder of the first Parrot Head Club, to expand his solo tribute, the group rose to national attention after winning a 1992 Jimmy Buffett Sound Alike Contest for Margaritaville Records. They became the first band to perform and repeatedly headline the annual Meeting of the Minds Parrot Head Convention and other landmark Parrot Head gatherings, helping build the Parrot Head community and shape the Trop Rock and Coastal Americana genres. Highlights include an appearance in Buffett’s 1993 MTV video Fruitcakes, a 1995 performance with Jimmy Buffett and The Coral Reefer Band in Atlanta that was released as Jimmy Buffett’s Barometer Soup Radio Special and still heard on Radio Margaritaville, and a 2012 feature in the Lions Gate film What to Expect When You’re Expecting with their recording of Why Don’t We Get Drunk on the Capitol Records soundtrack. In 2016, the band performed with Jimmy Buffett and Mac McAnally for a private event at The Masters Open in Augusta, then closed the year at the Washington State Fair’s Labor Day End of Summer Beach Bash with Tim McGraw, Kid Rock, and Uncle Kracker. With the passing of Jimmy Buffett in September 2023, A1A places renewed focus on honoring his music. Expect a show defined by energy, skilled musicianship, originality, and a sincere dedication to preserving his legacy from one of the earliest and most enduring Buffett tribute acts.
