At Queen Emma Summer Palace, guests begin by choosing a vintage mu‘umu‘u from the colorful Mu‘umu‘u Library collection, then receive guidance from Kumu Kuhi to fashion a fresh floral hairpiece or lei po‘o. With attire complete, a docent leads a step back into history with stories of Queen Emma, the royal family, and life in old Hawai‘i. The experience concludes with a light picnic lunch of delightful bites, enjoyed together on the terrace with views of lush gardens or at the nearby park. Personal table settings with linens and china may be brought, and on-site tables and chairs are limited. The morning program is co-sponsored by the Daughters of Hawai‘i and Queen Emma Summer Palace, in partnership with Kumu Kuhi and Mu‘umu‘u Library, followed by lunch. General admission is $75, members of the Daughters of Hawai‘i or Calabash Cousins pay $65, and a $60 companion option provides access to the event without the use of a vintage mu‘umu‘u.
