Ala Moana Hotel 410 Atkinson Drive, Honolulu, HI 96814Kapi'olani Park Walking Tour
Explore Kapiʻolani Park, recognized as one of Hawaiʻi’s earliest public parks, on a relaxed historical walking tour. Starting at Kaimana Beach and concluding in front of the Honolulu Zoo, the route covers less than a mile and is paced with frequent breaks. Expect four to five stops, spending about 20 to 30 minutes at each in shaded areas with picnic tables or grass for seating. The overall experience lasts around three hours, though you will not be walking the whole time. Water bottles and granola bars are available on-site, and bringing a personal water bottle is recommended. Comfortable shoes are suggested, along with sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, a folding chair or portable fan if desired, and a camera and notebook for capturing highlights. If you choose to share your experience online, you can tag @nowandthentours and use #nowandthentours. The narrative spans a wide timeline, from periods often described as ancient Hawaiʻi with King Kamehameha I as a historical bookend, through the Hawaiian Kingdom, the overthrow, and events that followed. Archival images and other media offer a clear look at then and now, creating opportunities to step into the past while standing in the present. The goal is for each guest to leave with a fuller understanding of Hawaiʻi, its history, successes, and challenges, and to bring those stories back to family and friends. Public restrooms are available along the way. Both free and paid parking can be found around Kapiʻolani Park, and the Honolulu Zoo has a large paid lot. Short surveys are collected at the end to support feedback for Now & Then Tours Hawaiʻi. A 50 percent kamaʻāina discount is available.
